ok... so a guy in the area has Nokian Hakkapalitas that he'll deliver mounted and balanced on 15" steel wheels for $300. He says there's about 75% of the tread there as they've only been on for 3 winters. They came from an 03 civic and will give me a minute lift (they are 185/65/15) which I wouldn't mind here in VT.

My Question. are 3 yr old Snow tires mounted on Steel rims worth it?

you should check to see what numbers are left on them. I believe all the Hakkas are marked with the numbers "8 6 4" right on the tread, to tell you how much tread is left. There should be at least the number 4 on it, and if the 6 is still on them then that's a pretty damn good deal. If it's just the 4 left on them then try offering $250...they'll probably be good for the 1 season and then you should consider new tires. Refer to the Nokian website for more info on their tire tread life markings!
