Hi all,

My '09 fit brake pads are gone and the tires are down to the thread mark by 43000k. Is that normal for you guys?

What brake pad and tires would you suggest? just want normal durable, all-season ones....nothing really high performance.

U live in BC, Canada? If so that's 43000km then? Automatic or manual transmission?

Need to replace brake pads is quite normal for manual, even more reasonable if u got automatic. Tires, depends if u do tire rotation, check tire pressure regulary & perform alignment check annually. But doesn't sound too bad with 43000km.

The tires on new cars are not the same quality as what you'd buy @ a tire store new. They last on average 30k miles. Sounds like you got good mileage out of them. I wouldn't know. I put new wheels and tires on the day I bought my Fit! Wish I would have gone 18" instead of 17". Brakes depend on the driving style and that mileage could be considered normal...

 

cool thanks alot guys. I just check my old Civic record and indeed I needed to change its brake pad at around 35k, but the original tires on the civic last over 70k.

For you Canadian folks out there, where would you get your brake pads replaced? I've heard the original equipment usually doesn't last as long.

 

My original brake pads were still at 80% when I had my car's annual inspection at 38k miles. Completely depends on driving style and environment.

not out of line but based on your brake wear I'd suggest Hawk HPS for longer wear. andyou choose your tires by TireRack ratings for what you want.

only get hawk hps if you want to sacrifice some longevity in order to gain better braking power.

 

I actually would get the pads from Autozone. It's very surprising, but they will give you a set of new pads when the old ones wear out. I asked three different store managers and they all said the same. Get the Duralast Cereamic pads. They should be about $40 or less.

 

We've installed hundreds of sets of Honda disc pads and hundreds of Hawk HPS and the Hawks outlast stock pads 2:1. Stop quicker as well. And yes, the manufacuring cost of Hawks are greater than Honda stock for a good reason why few Honda dealers offer them.

Now i just remember I got a set of 15" 65R185 tires from my dad's corolla. Can I put them on (I know I will need new rims, but I think Canadian Tire offers generic 15" rims that fit anything). The stock 15" is 175 in width, so the only difference from the stock tire is the width.

 

185/65/15 tires are about a half-inch taller than stock GE so they'll work UNLESS the offset on the steelies are less than 45 mm, at least for a short distance not loaded.

 

i run 185/65/15 snow tires on my GE with no issue. i can't remember the offset of the borbet wheels (ET38 or 40) but they were 15x6 or something. plenty of clearance.

 

Nice....so I don't even need to buy rims at all then? Just put the 185/65R15" onto my current 15" alloys?

If like the previous post said it's half an inch taller than OEM, will that affect the odometer?

 

It will have an effect on the odometer/speedometer, but it will be negligable. Remember your tires change diameter by more than that over their lifespan, as they wear.

 

I changed out my front OEM brake pads and rotors at 30K. The pads wore out quickly because I tend to brake pretty hard, especially when entering corners at a high rate of speed. I went with Hawk HPS pads and DBA 4000 Series rotors. They're awesome! I changed out my tires at 50K for the new Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid. They're awesome replacements for the OEM Turanza EL470. Not only do they a higher treadwear rating (460), but they also have more grip. I feel more comfortable in corners than I did with the EL470. The best part about the Grids is that they're cheaper than the EL470.

 

lol @ you guys suggesting tire rack, Autozone, or any other places in the states... remember he's in CANADA. No autozones up here and getting something shipped isn't cheap when you have border crossing fees.

 

No it's alright man.....lots of Canadians cross the border to pick up their tires and change down in the States

I am still not too sure about using the Corolla tires....When I go to Canadian tire and pretend to ask for generic steel rims, the 175/15" use a rim with a part number different from the 185/15".

But when I go to Kaltire, they said it's abosoultey fine because they claim manufacturer allows up to an inch difference......it will only be slightly taller.

If the Fit comes with 16" I don't see why it won't fit with a slightly bigger 15" tire. The only thing that I am worrying about is if the tire will pop off the wheel or something at highway speed, since it is a little wider than the original.
