What's the tire width? looks like you have a ____/50/16 tire. It could be that you are running too wide of a tire for that low of an offset. Assuming your current setup accurately reflects the same outer diameter as the OEM wheels, dropping to a 45 ratio would shrink you're overall diameter and throw off your speedo, shorten your warranty period (your car would think it's driven 100,000km when it's actually only driven 96,000km due to the wheel rotating 4% more than stock - numbers are for example only).

As for the rubbing on one side... is it rubbing on the inside, or outside? The outside (body) should be symmetrical but the inside by the engine bay is likely not symmetrical so if it's rubbing on the inside, it is likely due to the fact that the engine bay isn't likely symmetrical.

Very few cars are perfectly made so that there are small differences in the chassius and body positions and thats why you get rubbing on one side and not the other. Because you have a 6.5" rim width I expect you're running 205/50x16 tires. With the 42 mm offset and the 6.5" rim width the outer edge of the 205's are rubbing. I'm surprized both sides aren't. You must have a really cocked chassis. My suggestion is go to 195/50x16 if available and if not 185/55x16 tires. If you must stay with 205's go to 205/4516 tires

use this tool http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

the +42 offset on fronts suggests you will have rubbing issues. are you on coilovers or lowering springs?
