Aftermarket outside temp gauge...anyone install one yet?

The only reading I'd like to have inside my 09 Fit Sport is an outside temp reading. I see several on the market...what do you think/anyone with experience in these non-oem pieces?

Not sure about stand-alone temp. devices, but there are more than a few threads from those who have installed self-dimming rear view mirrors with temp. gauges, some with temp. and compass. I'm not saying there aren't threads about stand-alone devices, I just don't recall any.

Just do a forum search for what you're asking... like I said, there are more than a few threads/posts relating to the topic, in some form or another.

I went with the Gentex_21A, a really nice OEM quality unit. Temp sensor is mounted just behind the front license plate about 18" above pavement.

Mike what unit do you have there? I spent a bunch of time trying to find something like that before I settled on the Gentex. Actually had a guy in SEAsia talking me through some units he produced. I think he might have thought I was into a large order. Your car is looking as good as always_ I've gotta spring for the faux trim someday.

Just get an aquarium thermometer with an adhesive stick cup on it and stick it on the outside of your window.

I put one of the temp/compass rear view mirrors in on my RAV4 and that works quite nice ( but $ 300 so...).

I spent $8 on mine. A Bell Indoor/outdoor thermometer with the sensor stuck to one of the hinge posts on the driver's side door. Even has black/silver as the colors so it blends right in. The only down-side is that at night, it is tough to see but I rarely drive at night (or I'd add a small light with a button I could press to illuminate it).

of note, the other day it was accurately reading -22 degrees Fahrenheit. DAMN it was cold. Most LCD Thermometers I've had have had issues below 0F, let alone down to -22F. This one worked like a champ.

for 8 bucks, I got my money's worth.

Another pic or two can be found here

Question Rearview mirror combo

Caliban, where did you get this mirror combination and what did it cost. It's just what I've been looking for.

Thumbs up Indoor/outdoor temp gauge mirror

Caliban,

Thank you so much and thanks for your installation photos. I wish I was handy enough to install it myself. I'll have to check around and find somewhere to get it done.
You won't believe this but I traded in a Lexus ES350 for my 10 Sport. The Lexus was no longer fun to drive, but the only things I really miss are the outside thermometer and the armrest console.

Thanks
Dryheat

Just received my AEI outside thermometer. The only function is reading the outside temp. However, I need to cut a hole somewhere in the dash for it to slide into and am not sure of the best location. It is not lighted so I thought the middle of the upper glove box would work but feels like it's double thick - and - if I screw it up it's probably big bucks. Other location is next to the 12v outlet but ca't get in see what's behind. Any suggestion? BTW, unit was $28 including ship thru Amazon
