Just heard about this is morning too...I called Honda Canada and they told me my car is in affect=( its best to call that number and know right away if your Fit is part of the recall. I keep hearing a whirling kind of noise every now and then like some of you guys have commented on so my bet is its due to the faulty spring.

Does anyone know if i need to bring the car to honda fully stock? i have an axle back, intake, lowering springs and couple small things like voltage stabilizer..

according to Honda Owner Link my 2010 Fit isn't affected by this recall. I'm still going to call the dealer and see what's up.

here's the site. just type in your VIN.

I personally knew this day would happen. Every car has some sort of recall.
My past cars have always had recalls and I take it in and they fix it...no problems. I'm not worried about it. If my engine fails me tomorrow because of this...I guess Honda is buying me a new motor...no skin off my back. I'm just glad a recall was issued. This isn't going to hinder my driving style or driving amount what so ever.

I checked also... but I'm betting that its because the database hasn't been updated yet.

They could be setting up the logistics to handle the recall before letting people check online or sending out notices.

that's what I was thinking too. I'm going to start checking it daily and call the dealer every couple days. Don't really understand why my Fit wouldn't be affected by this.

If you are signed up through the owners link (where I keep all my service records) and go to the recall tab they have it posted there that my car has a recall. All it says to please wait for a notice in the mail before contacting your dealership.
My wife's TSX had a recall about 6 months ago and the dealership didn't know anything about it when I first found out about it. He said Corporate sometimes takes a while to send them the notices and parts then they send out the customer notifications in the mail when they have fully informed the techs at the dealerships how to fix the recall. About 2 weeks later we received the notice in the mail and called the dealership and they fixed it within 3 hours and we had a nice drive in their 2010 TSX loaner while they fixed it.

No problems. the car could have 1 mile or 1,000,000 miles. A recall isn't based on time or mileage, just whether your VIN is listed as affected.

Mine here are great. They take the extra time/effort to deal with you as a person. I'd rather take mine to the dealer than an independent mechanic who works on VW's, Hondas, Chevys, Fords, everything under the sun... All they do all day long is work on Hondas...

Whining about lost work? Any dealer worth his salt has shuttle service around here or a loaner. Now if I had a job I could get time off. Retirement is a bitch.

Spinout - we all have the same engine so of course they have to recall everyone.
Agreed on the paranoia part... It's not like any of us on this board have lost an engine (or even had one fail) because of this. It looks like honda has determined there is the Potential for a problem and is being proactive.

As for the Same engine so they have to recall us all... Not quite. The engines are all the same but the parts may be sourced from different specialty manufacturers. "Bob's spring company" may have made half the springs for Fit engine while "Joey's springs & more" may have made the rest.

Excuse me, but I think it's pretty significant...
It is significant but note that no one has had issues up to this point. If they hadn't put out notice, no one would be worrying about it...

Here in Japan it is for 43,715 GE8/9's and another 124,000 Freeds.

My chassis is not included in the list, my car was produced in Jan 2010. If your car was made after this date you should have no issue at least according to the Honda Japan website. Looks like it affects motors that were produced through mid-Nov 2009.

Oh, I was wondering if maybe they just had a batch of defective springs.

I got mine in June '10, and it was a recent shipment from Japan, so I think it was a recently made one. I'll have to double check my VIN later.

Of course March is a few short weeks away, so I'll know for sure then.

honda says they're recalling 92,000 cars in the u.s. i would have guessed significantly fewer than that would have been built by mid november 2009... of course i could be completely wrong... but it seems like a lot.

Maybe we should start a new thread on why we don't trust local Honda Techs. Personally I don't trust any mechanic shop where you don't deal directly with the guys working on your car. The "receptionist" structure is designed to screw the customer and hide the real working conditions in the shop. It's not just a Honda thing either.

Sucks about the recall, I will try and combine it with my first service interval.

I've see everything from forgetting to put caps back on to totally forgetting to put oil in the car after draining it. I don't trust them unless I know them personally and even then I still check just to make sure.

Actually, I think there's a production quota of about 80k units for NA per year. So it seems about right for the entire 2009 production along with any 2010s until Nov.

The 92k could be all produced Fits (all '09s & '10s until Nov or so), not necessarily sold Fits (which I would guess is a little less).

Oops, forgot a link... http://wot.motortrend.com/honda-boos...r-us-1301.html

Ditto to the entire above post! I'd like to know if they've gotta change the oil after this too? The reason I ask is because I'm at 5% on my MM and I've been running Mobil 1 and plan on changing it out this weekend (its got 9k on the current oil) Honestly, I hope I don't get a letter to be honest and as far as my intake goes, I'm leaving it on, its been on there for 17k w/o a problem, cleaned it twice too. The recall has nothing to do with my K&N typhoon, so I'm not changing it out.

How many aren't seeing a recall in their owners link? Are some seeing it and some aren't? There is no current recall for my Fit, although I'm sure it will come to pass.

But is anyone SEEING a recall notice in their honda owners link?

Dan

I'm pretty sure they can't deny a recall based on aftermarket parts. If your engine fails somewhere down the line and say they find out you turbocharged it they could use that to deny you, but for a recall they don't care.
