Proper RPM to change gears with MT.

Hello everybody!

As a new member of the forum and a new owner of a Fit I would like to know the proper RPM to change gears with a manual transmission.
I did not drive stick for two years or so, so I am in a relearning stage.

Thanks!

But, you have to consider that Honda likes high rev. So, don't be put off by high rev of the Fit's engine.

You can also read your owners manual.

Anywhere from 2200 to 6900. It depends on the situation. The biggest mistake MT newbies make is that they are afraid to rev the engine. I would not be redlining it right it away but after it's broken in, get it up over 6000 a few times and see how the car reacts. 5000+ on a Fit is no big deal. The car likes high revs. It's the way the little engine can make any power at all.

I shift when the fuel cutoff kicks in....all day, every day.

iam pretty simular, the inner roads here go kinda fast so i do 4k all the time, on the highway i feel like thats an excuse for me to hit redline.. so i perhaps hit redline 2-6 times a day.

car has 24k miles on it... so far so good..

Like a boss

As for when to shift, 3-3.5k is what I always did for normal acceleration. For fast starts you just shift when it feels right. and if you want to get really precise there's a table of shifting speeds in the owners manual
