Hood seal?

Should there be a rubber seal on the front of my hood? It's a 2011 Base Fit 5MT and it looks like there should be something there.

Mine looks like that too. Some of the holes are used to install the aftermarket front air deflector: DIYHonda.com Video Podcasts: Episode #171 - 2nd Generation Honda Fit Air Deflector

i think yours got "cut" a little in the middle. kind of on the right side of it. not a big issue but you could probably go and whine about it. or you can just install the bug deflector.

OK, so long as it's supposed to be like that. It is just every car I have had had a rubber seal there.

Loving the fit so far, taking it on a road trip to visit family today.

Random fact: that crease in the hood is so that the hood crumples in an accident instead of flying through the windshield and decapitating someone. Another random fact: dodge neon trunk lids where netorious for going through the rear window and injuring passengers in the rear seat in rear end accidents. There was one 'near decapitation' when a neon was rear-ended by a semi. This is why we don't buy chryslers

Well that is always a good thing.

I know three different people who were seriously injured in neons.

Hey I've always wondered this too about the hood seal. I've been trying to look through other Honda vehicles in hopes they might have used something similar in their hood seals all the way across the front. If I find anything aftermarket or DIY that works I'll let you guys know. I think that sealing the hood down to the grille would really help cut down on the amount of salt/grime/water that sprays off the road onto the engine.

if it had a seal how would it get air to the back of the engine bay with the scoop

looks the same as mine too with the two rubber pieces on the corners

probably through the large and mostly open grille. it's not like this tiny 1.5L engine needs a lot of air intake anyways.

Which begs the question: what purpose would a rubber seal at the front of the hood serve? Water, grit, salt, and road debris will enter via the grill (passing through the condenser/radiator) or the wide open bottom of the engine compartment.

I think on more expensive cars the rubber at the front of the hood serves to lessen noise a bit (from the outside).

I don't think I'd worry about it.

I've been amazed at how clean and dry the engine bay stays on my FIT. Dust gets in there, but the NE winter and hurricane down pours at turnpike speeds stay out surprisingly well. Better then any other vehicle I've owned.
