fitfreaks: help me troubleshoot this annoying sound

Its a buzzing sound (metallic) which occurs around 2500 to 3200 rpms but matches gear shifts : when I shift is disappears for a split second but comes back in

Also this sound only occurs while driving: I tried replicating it in neutral, park, and even drive while e bake and regular brakes where held down (not safe and couldn't get to 3k rpms without pulling)

Any ideas? It seems to strike out exhaust as a possibility right? Or am I.missing something?

I'm looking at either exhaust or tranny as the culprit but need as much info from you all as possible before I bring it in.

Please help, I'm sure it would help someone else someday. Thanks!

is the buzzing there when you rev it to the 2500-3200rpm range in neutral?

if it is, it could be the heat shield(s) rattling. you can try tightening the heat shield bolts on the exhaust manifold and/or the heat shield bolts on the catalytic convertor.

i had that sound and it was an easy fix, now my car doesn't sound like trash haha

No I can't get the buzz in neutral though if I can get the up high enough I'll check the shields.

So I was able to jack the car up and check the cat heat shield by tapping it with a pole. It didn't seem loose. I also confirmed the sound can't be relicated in neutral (got it to 4.5k rpm no sound.

Could it be the transmission?

Yea so long as I am driving, it can be reproduced as soom as the tach hits 2500 rpms and stop just before I hit 3500. Continues even if gears shift so long as I am in the rpm range.

hmm, i was able to reproduce my heat shield rattle while revving in neutral, but if you're game, go ahead and try tightening some of the bolts - you can't tell if they're loose by tapping on the heat shields, but if they are indeed loose, you will know when you turn the wrench. they just vibrate at a certain rpm range, enough to cause an audible rattle.

good luck, i hope that solves it

I have a similar sound while driving, but it is right around 3,000 RPM. I have a 2007 Fit, 5MT. The sound happens in any gear, either when shifting, decelerating in a gear, or in neutral. It is most audible when driving. I made sure the exhaust manifold heatshield was tight but I have not checked the catalytic converter. The sound has been happening for a couple of months now. Definitely weird how it is at a specific RPM range. I will check more bolts/exhaust connections. Any other ideas?

mine went away

Hello, its been awhile but mine eventually went away.

I'm not sure what it was but did notice a few things were off:

1) Plastic bag melted to exhaust after cat and turned to droplets. Shaved as many of those as I could with a razor and it helped.
