Tow Hitch for 2010 Fit

HI all. I am going to be buying a tow hitch for my Fit Sport. Its not going to be used fora trailor right away. I am buying one for a bike rack I will buy to be used with it. Later down the road I might want to pull a small trailor or something.

My question is, what tow hitches would you recommend, any personal experience with any certain brand that made you choose that certain one? Any advice will be welcomed. Thanks again!!

James

U-Haul will install a hitch receiver for about $235.00. I had them install one on my '09 several months ago. I'm using it for a Thule Bike Rack.

No problem. The search here doesn't allow 3-letter words so I put quotes around them "tow hitch" and Voila, cam up with a few options.

I purchased a "Curt" hitch off eBay for around $100ish shipped (forget exact amount) and have had fantastic results. Installed it myself wasnt very difficult. Looks a lot better than the Uhaul installed hitches Ive seen.

Really huge pic

Check out Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924 . They have hitches for the Fit, and videos specific to the car showing how to install it, too.

A tow hitch does double duty as a rear frame brace that adds stiffness that adds more stability to the rear suspension mounts... Has anyone notice an appreciable amount of difference?

much like a sway bar? I got my hitch installed very soon after I bought the car- so can't say if there was a noticeable difference

I didnt notice a difference but perhaps the weight offsets the bracing...

I got a Drawtite one and will be installing it this weekend. After reading some posts, this one seems to be favored over the Curt and other hitches. Looking at the instructions and video, you should be able to do it in 45 minutes.

I got mine on etrailer.com and instructions and a video is on there to look at before you buy.

I installed the drawtite from etrailer about two weeks ago. The install took me 40 minutes with a buddy and the car was on his lift. If I had done it by myself and on the floor, I would have been cursing like a sailor.

The install wasn't too hard. Just notching the frame was the worst. I wonder about rust though.

?? notching is only a slight tap with hammer and chisel. Mine almost (but not quite) didn't need it. I would estimate 1/16" notch only.

Definitely a two person job though unless you have a transmission jack to hold the receiver bar in place. Once you have the bolts fed through frame with the fishing wire you don't want to push them back up. It would be near impossible to retrieve them.

I recommend to use Loctite on the bolts and definitely use a torque wrench for tightening. My hitch has been on for about 3 months so I'm due for a re-check of bolt torque.
