Taking Care of My Baby

Ok...I've Recently changed the oil (I'm at around 14k) and the air filter. I had them check the air in the tires as well. I'm averaging 38 mpg (vs the 35, prior to)

What else can I do, what else can I do??

Silly! I meant to improve gas mileage. I'd love average 40, not that I'm complaining about 38--mind you--I'm lovin' it!!

oh dear.

Driving habits will have the most impact.

Reducing weight (the car's!) or reducing drag (less roll resistant tires, but the factory tires are probably best for this).

Using a lighter weight oil might help. Synthetic oil has been shown to increase mpg a couple percent. I don't recommend using a different grade of oil than Honda recommends.

Personally I have seen no evidence to suggest over inflating tires, or using a higher octane fuel helps. There are many articles stating these do not help.

There is no indication that changing air filters helps mpg. Too frequent changes reduce the effectiveness of the air filter (the dirt trapped in it actually helps trap a greater percentage of airborne particulates).

Ask down in the "eco fit" forums and there will be no shortage of advice.

Me, I'd go for the bling.

Check cabin filter? Even though it won't affect your MPG.

Electronic throttle controller is the best thing to do now. It can be set on eco mode and does not allow the throttle to be opened fully. It can also be set to sport mode for a little fun.

Here read up:

I recommend that you change your transmission fluid ASAP.

At 14k? That seems premature.

I first changed my ATF at 15k and the fluid was already pretty dark. Ever since then, I've been changing the ATF every 10k miles.

I think malraux may have answered your question to some extent... wash/wax to get rid of dirt, grime accumulating in the wheel wells etc will reduce weight and improve gas mileage.. am I correct?

Is a week's worth of dirt REALLY going to add that much wind drag?

oh. I am thinking of a month's worth of dirt... I wash my FIT once every 3 to 4 weeks if it is not too dirty. This is no indication of the frequency of me taking showers

LMAO Yeah, I wash it about every 2 weeks or so. In all honesty, a heck of a lot more often than I mow my lawn. Mowing is just not as much fun. I usually like to wait until Saturday morning @ 6a to mow my lawn. My revenge for the neighbors waking me up with their yardwork since I'm a day sleeper!!

Paybacks are hell
