Unpredictable alarm!

My new Honda fit's alarm has been going off at strange times. Once I left it unlocked in the garage, and came out several hours later to retrieve something. When I opened the unlocked door, the alarm went off.
The second time I was unloading groceries. I closed all the doors, but left the car unlocked. I returned a moment later for items in the hatchback. When I opened it, the alarm went off.
I thought the alarm only armed when the car was locked. What's going on?

Did your dealer install an impact sensor alarm?

Since you're a new car/owner, I suggest you read the alarm section of your manual. If not covered, take it back and let the dealer check it out.

BTW I like your username

Our cars, like many others(2009+), have an alarm which will automatically activate soon after the driver has left the car. For the Fit, i believe the alarm activates after about 5-10 minutes. This helps out most people who often forget to alarm there car soon after they have left, like myself! Hope this helps.

SenBlue09 was right. The alarm automagically sets its self after a period of time(not sure the exact amount). Check out the manual. Even though mine locks the doors too. If you think something is wrong with it, call up your dealer and speak with them about the issue. If it's faulty then they should take care of it. If not then they should be able to help you with it anyways. Good luck!

sorry, but not true.

I have a 2010, and left it overnight a couple of times, came out to find it still unlocked.

I'm leaning towards the OP having an aftermarket installed (KARR for one).

I believe the alarm auto sets itself after some time once you use the remote lock. Or click twice to set it immediately. But it shouldn't auto lock without that. It will also lock if it's locked and you unlock it but don't open the door within a period of time.

I agree....if the car is equipped with the factory alarm, the alarm will not arm itself after just closing the door. I just found this out this weekend when I took the car out of the garage, exited the car without locking the doors, washed it, then half hour later wanted to clean the interior and noticed that it did not arm itself. I learn something new with this car each week...LOL

there is a 30second delay or something after you unlock a locked car and dont open any of the doors it will lock/arm automatically.

but it shouldn't go off in random. sounds like a dealer-installed mistake or something. i can say ive never had such issues on my GD or GE.
