I have a yakima too. Some of my posts on other threads have photos.
As for the fairing, be forewarned that they will hurt fuel economy. 2-3mpg alone.

From what I've been able to determine from photos, the feet on the Yakima rack sit outboard of the rain gutter in the roof, while the Thule feet straddle the gutter. The crease that forms the rain gutter is structurally stiffer than the rest of the roof, so I would recommend the Thule as the more solid mount.

well... any rack that isnt bolted down is easy to steal. just give me a small crowbar or long screwdriver and ill take your clipped in rack within minutes.

i too have the clipped yakima rack + fairing + locks + accessory lock for fairing. im always aware of the fact if someone NEEDS my rack more than i do they WILL take it.

im always smart about where and when i park my car because my fit will attract thieves (ssr type c wheels, rack).

choosing a roof rack is not about which is better, its more about preference and what you can get for cheaper. all rack companies produce all their attachments so that they will be cross compatible with either round(yakima), rectangular(thule), or oval(factory) cross bars.

i've got a thule rack and i love it. thule fit kits are specific to each car. the yakima ones are generalized usually for a couple different models. if you decide to go yakima, i've got a brand new fairing laying around that i was gonna use on my vw rack and never got to install before i sold the car. ha.

as for fairings, they kill your mpg, but help with noise.
