Exclamation What??? Hondata Flashpro....read on

Hondata is coming out with a Flashpro for the CRZ...however, they are being really tight lipped about it. I read about in this month's Honda Tuning and called them directly (see # in my sig) to find out if there would be cross platform applications. The gentleman I spoke with wasn't giving very much info, but he said the engines and ECUs are completely different between the CRZ and the Fit. While I agree that the ECUs are likely different (though I bet they share many similarities)...I disagree that the engines are so different that it would take a completely different Flashpro module to tune our SOHC L15 vs. the CRZ's SOHC L15.

Anyways the point of this thread is to encourage everyone to write and call Hondata and ask for dual functionality for the GE Fit. Now is NOT the time to ask "will this work on the automatic?"...now is the time to petition Hondata in mass.

Call. Email. Just do it. Tell them you saw the article in Honda Tuning and were hoping they would extend functionality to the Fit given the nearly identical internal combustion engines.

Email sent.I've had both APR and GIAC chips in Audi's and they were great, but am under the impression conservative stock tuning made for easy gains via programming on those turbo cars.

I like the idea, but do wonder how much can be squeezed out of the existing fit via ecu programming and at what price.

Flashpro did wonders for my Si. Every car needs one of these things.

Great job everyone!! If we get a legitimate tuning solution, I believe the aftermarket support would really take off.

Regarding gains, 555SexyDrive said that Spoon or JsRacing (can't remember) had a flashed ECU that brought power up to 160ps...I'm not sure the conversion from ps to hp but I believe it is close to 1:1. I think 130-140 hp at the wheels would be a reasonable expectation with SRI/CAI, WR header, and 2.5" exhaust and a really good tune. That would be a major improvement over the current 104 hp at the wheels. Remember, that all the gains seen with free flowing exhaust and intakes are negated by the adaptive ECU shortly after install (unless you repeatedly disconnect your battery)...so right now all the $$$ spent on engine bolt ons is washed down the drain.

Lastly, Flashpro will likely make it much easier for companies to develop/mass produce a bolt on turbo or SC.

Actually the J's motor had increased compression, slight port and polish, their exhaust, intake and their flashed ECU and put down about 163ps on their dynapack.

I definitely would love to see the FlashPro come about for the L15A 2nd gen motor, I would give up the current J's flash to be able to go back to tuning myself. Loved KPro on my DC5R and AP2 and I'm sure a bit more could be squeezed out of the L15A with FlashPro compared to the J's reflash.

~0.986HP = 1 PS (Pferdestarke)

So, 160whp on a dynapack? Not bad. Correction factor? Ambient conditions/Altitude density?

Redline?

As far as Hondata is concerned, I would be surprised however if they ever decided to support the GE8s. In spite of however many emails can be sent their way. Try and think like a business owner who's watched this market.

Would you? No.

Hondata is not the be-all end-all of EMS's. You have other options for what it would likely cost you.

I agree, but from a business perspective....it REALLY REALLY doesn't make sense to support the CRZ. I would like to see the actual sales numbers to see how many Fits have been sold for every one CRZ. It boggles my mind that Hondata is supporting this turd.

I also agree that Hondata is not the best tuning platform on the market, but they get the aftermarket industry to follow...and that's much more important IMO.

Considering all the CRZ owners I've seen/met are a bunch of yuppies that drive with their vaginas It makes absolutely no sense that they are going to offer a product for the CRZ. There seems like there is less of a market for CRZ performance than Fit performance but what ever. What do I know.

201 views and only 12 replies....FitFreak, we need everyone's participation. Even if you don't think you'd ever use this, please support your fellow Fit owners and email/call Hondata asking for a FlashPro for the GE Fit.

Emailed.. it makes NO business sense to do this for the CRZ. So they cant use that as an excuse for not doing it for the Fit. I imagine the CRZ is a more complicated ECU than the fit, what with the IMA and all that going on.

American Honda Sales Figures For August 2011 | 2012 Honda Civic Forum

YTD sales figures as of 8/2011 (YTD 8/2011)
CR-Z - 9,635 (694)
Fit - 43,000 (36,000)

As you can see, approximately 4 Fits are sold for every 1 CR-Z this year. Since the introduction of the CR-Z, there have been almost 10 Fits sold for every 1 CR-Z.

I guess I'm just butt hurt that Hondata is doing this. Maybe Hondata has bought into the idea that Hybrid powerplants are the future of performance vehicles. I don't buy it...Chevy and Ford are in the midst of one of the largest horsepower races ever (example Camaro ZL1 has over 550 hp and 570 tq) and at least for now, direct injection and small turbocharged engines are the standard.

I suspect with the CRZ's hybrid tech there are easy (no cost) performance gains to be had at the expense of fuel economy just by running the electric more aggressively than its sport mode allows.

Combine this potential with the sportiness of a 2 seater and you have market justification.

I wasn't aware of what this does even for non-turbo cars.... everyone should call or email.

I've heard the batteries will deplete after 3 aggressive 0-60 accelerations...then you're tugging 300 lbs of batteries on the same 1.5 L SOHC engine that we have. Unless Hondata is also planning to add batteries (i.e. more weight) then I'm not sure how they're going to massage more performance out of the electric drivetrain.

I agree you can "justify" anything...but whether it makes dollars and "sense" is another thing.

That might sway their minds.
