Eh. Probably, but there's nothing better on the market until you get to around 30k. IMO

Turbo and direct injection both give power (notably torque) + MPG gains over iVTEC alone. Every manufacturer out there (besides Honda it seems) is headed down the road of turbo + smaller displacement engines as the fuel mileage/CAFE standards go up. Even BMW is replacing some 6-cylinder engines with the N20 turbo four...

2012 BMW 528i First Drive

Not for long distance driving? Highway MPG goes up. Only thing that remains to be seen is if direct injection causes any issues down the road.

Pretty meaningless unless you're driving like a maniac on the road all the time, or constantly hit the tracks.

Torque is useful daily, everyday on public roads, where most everything happens on the low end, not constantly at redline.

If you're racing you don't need all that much torque. I got around in my Integra perfectly fine, and my friend gets around in EM1 with no issues.

Yes but I suspect most people are buying a Fit not to race it. When you load it up with shit in the back, the extra torque will help you get moving.

Well, when you load up that car of yours, and try a good steep grade hill climb, you'll quickly understand what I mean about how torque is useful... when you're not racing.

From your link: "The 2012 528i improves on the 2011 model's fuel economy by 1 mpg city and 2 mpg highway ..."

Pretty minor change. This is just a different market segment. If you turn a Fit into a BMW, it won't meet the cost/performance ratio that Fit buyers love. I traded in a 1.8T Passat to buy my Fit. I think I made a good decision.

You're right about the move to direct injection and turbos. While I was writing this post, I was watching a Mazda commercial for their new direct injection/turbo engine.

A few obvious upgrades just to keep up with the competition:

1. Include the freaking floor mats, center console and rear cargo tray as standard equipment.

2. 6 speed gear will help with noise and improve mpg (no brainer)

3. Have they added map lights yet for the Canadian 2012 Fit yet? Because I hate not having a map light!

4. Lengthen the warranty! Much like like Chevy, Mitsubishi and Hyundai have done.

Rear disc brakes would be nice. Glass roof as option would be better.

Do a better job at protecting the rear wheel wells from stone damage (paint chips that lead to rust). I've found a disappointing amount of rust on my car. I'm attempting to treat the rust and fortify the surface against more stone chips.

Most cars have plastic liners to protect the wells, not so in the Fit.

all I want for this car is a taller final drive.

my first gear is pretty much worthless, so not sure why I would need a 6spd. This thing could put down some good numbers if it wasnt geared to match epa est of the automatic.

Note to Honda, this is an unofficial forum, PLEASE stay away and don't read any of this thread.

LEAVE THE FIT AS IS or lose another 50~75kgs!!! Well maybe let NA have rear disc brakes on the supposed sport model.

to be realistic; the only changes i'd like to see are a couple things with the sport.
-oem armrest and cargo cover come standard
-rear disk brakes
-sunroof
-normal sized battery
-more power points

stuff the fit sport should've come with imo. people can deal with the skinny tires on their own.

When I bought my 2010 MT it was all I expected it to be - except no built-in sat-radio ability, the road noise and the single power point.

I've hooked up my XM Inno, can/will add another power point, but the road noise drones on. I understand the 2012's might be a bit quieter.

I have no issue what-so-ever with the engineering of the beast.

As far as including things like mats and cargo covers and such - small potatoes the dealer should be a bit more flexible with, but these Fits are sold with extraordinary low margins in the USDM.

I my fit.
