Question GE 08 Turbo Help

I want to get a turbo for my GE 08. Every turbo I've seen so far has been $$$. My buddy just got a 01 GTI with an aftermarket turbo from a dealer. they gave him the stock turbo with all the piping and hoses as well. I was wondering if the GE 08 can fit the GTI 1.8 Turbo even if it barely fits inside since my buddy is practically willing to give it to me. :

Ok, before you get absolutely thrashed, I advise that you do some research first. I seriously doubt all the piping and everything would fit correctly. Just bolting up a 1.8t turbo/piping isnt really how it works. Im not a boost expert, so I expect DSM or Lyon to jump in any time.

Theoretically....you could make it work, as long as you have the money. There is a reason only a few people have turbo'd the GE.

Other than that, I see you are new here so welcome to the forum!

Other than the price of the turbo itself, you would probably spend just as much adapting that kit to fit the GE8 as you would just building your own kit from scratch.

I have no clue what turbo model the GTi uses tho, so it may or may not work.

It's not a over Whelming turbo. Many just snatch the turbo and build the piping my self? I mean I'm getting basically free might as well take it? Ya the mk4 turbo is small has the hoses included some stuff is missing but it's minor

Welcome to the forum. I think the main issue your have is the manifold for the turbo, after that the piping is going to have to be custom, heres a link to Lyon D.I.Y Good Luck and if you can do it post some pics.

If it is the stock BorgWarner K03/K04 I would not use it. You are going to be all over the wrong parts of that compressor map. And you will have to have a custom manifold to fit, might as well go with a T3 turbo from the get go for that amount of money.

Good discussion, just do it and let us know. Hardly anyone from this forum has a turbo ge so itll be hard getting a straight forward answer... As everyone mentioned, fabrication will be a key point in making it work (manifold, piping, intercooler...). In addition, engine management may be tough too. Idk many if any that will work on the ge8 fit, maybe someone can help.

If u do do it, keep us posted because it'll help out a lot of people!

Thanks will do. I'm not sure exactly which turbo. It's the stock turbo from a 01 gti 1.8 but since I can't get it tinstalled yet, I was thinking about chipping it in the time being until I get the piping done, any good chips out there for around 70-80 bucks? Don't really wanna drop that much for a chip

your posts are quite contradictory. you want to turbo your GE fit, but don't want to spend a lot, but want it done right, then you want to skimp out on of the most important aspects of the kit, which is the engine management.

from what i've gathered, the exhaust manifold is merged to the heads of the car, correct? if that's the case, all you would need to do is find a place right after the manifold to terminate a pipe that would then feed the turbo. from there, all you would need to fabricate are the chargepipes, downpipe and intake. things you would need after that would be an intercooler (may not be totally needed if you're running very low boost), intake, mounting for the turbo system along with the supporting mods (injectors, engine management, maf sensor taken care of, spark plugs, maybe clutch if you're manual trans).

I tried to give some input, but it looks like the OP has jumped to another thread already.

Yeah, if youre going through the trouble of customizing a turbo set up, don't rely on a generic, off-the-shelf chip to suffice. The motor you're going to have to replace will cost more in the end
