wheel bearings replaced now abs light on

So the noise in my drivers wheel got loud enough that passengers were hearing it so I pulled the trigger and replaced both front wheel bearings.

During the process they showed me the abs sensor on the pass side was cracked (the housing). They said it might work afterwards. They also unplugged the abs from the engine side.

I returned today and they noticed they forgot to plug it in. They plugged it back and drove it but the light is on.

Will this light stay on until I disconnect the battery? I'm thinking the light was on since it was unplugged but now that its plugged will it take time before it resets?

If not how hard is this to do myself? Looks like I would just take off the wheel and with a combo wrench remove the old sensor.

Please advise...

Also I have 71k on my 09 so I'm pretty sure I'm out of warranty for the abs sensor right?

hummm... you might be able to clear it with the OBD2 reader. ive not had ABS turn on my cars so dont know for sure. i'd call up the shop and have them reset it for you though since it was their mistake forgetting to hook it up, right?

Unfortunately the shop sees the money and wants me to replace both sensors when only one was cracked.

I'm looking to do this myself.

On a "glass half full" note I kinda like the feel without abs, reminds me of my old accord...pedal feels firmer and like I have more control of it...for now

They shouldn't feel any different unless you are going past the point of where the ABS would activate.

True....which is what I meant.

But I do want to fix this issues (maybe after the winter)...anyone in the NJ area have a OBD-II scanner they are willing to use on my car to see if we can clear the code or identify which sensor is out?

Potential bad news for you (because the same thing happened to me). The wheel bearing can be pressed into the knuckle two different ways. Unfortunately, the pickup for the ABS sensor is on one half of the wheel bearing. Press them in the wrong way and no ABS. This also destroys the sensor, meaning you'll not only have to get a new sensor on one or both of the sides they pressed in the wrong way, but you'll also have to get another new set of bearings and circlips because they can't just be pushed out, turned around the right way, and pressed back in. They need to be replaced once pressed out.

Good luck and let us know what turns up...

is there a way to check without taking it apart again? I know one side was put together properly, the other side was done by a different mechanic who rushed the job and did a crap job of putting it together...

i'm heading back there today to see if they can give me the codes...but would like to know if my bearing is backwards and doubt they would admit to it unless I can show it to them first.

I think teamkitty is correct I've seen this happen before you have to pay close attention to the direction of the wheelbearing. It is possible to press them apart again but most likely the inner race will come apart

You could unplug the sensor and put a ohm meter and the sensor side of the connector and spin the hub to see if there is continuity at certin spots
