JDM L15 motor swap?
JDM L15 motor swap?
so i'm waiting for something to become available for the 2nd gen fit, motor wise...and its looking like its gonna be a while.(motor swap, turbo or supercharger).....if anything is out there in the works, post up, i haven't seen it on here since the "sprintex supercharger" thread.
so i was thinking about it a while back, never posted it, but i'm curious to know if anyone has had the same thought as me. swaping out a USDM L15 for a JDM L15, and getting the sprintex supercharger.....seeing as how the sprintex SC won't work on the USDM due to the "ERG" valve. correct me if i'm wrong....but from what i read in the thread, all i seemed to get out of it was that was one of the main humps for them to climb, but decided to stop.
so yea....anyone thought of doing this? is there even a L15 available to buy from japan for a swap period? i plan to get ahold of an importer here and see what they can do.....but yea.....thoughts??
or am i just wishing and going crazy?

Holy hell.

WTF is wrong with the people on this forum?
You serious about swapping the entire f*cking engine to put on a pathetic little blower?
It's only been spelled out several dozen times at this point on how to do it. Every conceivable part and all the electronics are available to boost the USDM engine.
What is the matter with you guys? It's like you all just want to piss and moan about it instead of taking the initiative, doing some reading and wrenching yourselves.
You can do it. Right this minute. NOTHING is stopping you. Grow a pair, bust out your check book and get cracking.
All the hardware and electronics EXIST for the USDM the only thing stopping you, is yourselves.
Build it. Take it to a tuner. Be done with it. If you can't make a 200whp worthy kit for $2500 or less you have failed.
Christ, cut me a check, drop your car off and I'll do it.
No manufacturer in their right mind would make a kit for the USDM GEs because of the OWNERS, it has nothing to do with the engine or the ECU.
Even if you could buy a bolt on kit, you still have to physically BOLT the sucker ON to the engine.
/end rant.
//BTW, its an EGR valve for f*cks sake.

I've decided, this forum needs a set of stickied threads that are an instruction manual for how to make more power with your car, right down to the exactly what to buy. Installation is another thing, but like you said, getting that "kit" organized will help some people jump. Fucking links and everything should one want to be so organized. I also want to see one for normally aspirated tuning that addresses some of the timing issues with the ecu, and work arounds, as well as have some tuning setups for people to baseline with. I've even written the thread outline and rules for that. Most of the stuff for turbos would just be copy/paste from elsewhere on the forum. Most of the brilliant info is hidden in tangential pages of long threads. Thoughts?

THE RULES: Each member gets one post to organize and present clearly what they would do, or have done, and why. Subsequent posts can be made to answer questions, but how complete the original post presents your model can minimize that. Please post valuable and expert knowlege only please. Subjective feedback regarding experiences with power-adding parts is incomplete without a more supportive overall plan, explanation, or assessment of the mod's worthiness in the quest for more power.
DiamondStarMotors is not allowed to post more than once per week...

It should be about what to buy, not how to make it work. We know FitFreakers like to spend money.
That's where the threads get long and complicated. Separate thread for later...
More from my potential thread:
We need to get to a point where tuning parameters can be shared across the board with like-products installed, and give our DIY crowd something to get their wrenches turning without having to get an engineering degree.
Catchy?
I actually have more than a couple full parts lists floating around this forum. Everything from methanol kits, to single turbo, all motor and even a twincharged bolt on write up.
Thats not even including those made by others in the past.

Yeah, there is a ton of stuff floating around. Glad you're on board.
Quick question before i have to go for the evening: What's a safe no-brainer amount of NOS to shoot in there? One simple formula to give people, is for them to remove the rear seats, add a 50 shot and then have a better power to weight ratio than an si (around 14 lbs per hp.) Not bad for the price. Easy to remove when comes selling time, or whatever. Lots of benefits. When I got into tuning back in the 90s, NOS made a lot of sense, but for some reason F&F kinda killed that trend. I know Lyon messed with it, but to promote something more mild might make sense. Not sure how much the ecu can muck with super cold air. That's up to you engineering guys. I'm good a turning, braking, shifting, weaving and being perceived as a douchebag on 4 wheels most of the time. I'll tinker, just tell me what to do and what to get.

I would pick his brain about it, since you have a GE as well.
The real trick is probably keeping a bottle heater handy for consistent pressure.

At least swap something with larger displacement! I can guarantee you that K swap mounts are coming for the GE. I heard it from the horse's mouth...Brian G from Hasport. We had a conversation about 2 weeks ago. Also, J swap mounts should be coming out for the CRZ (hood actually closes!!!) and these mounts will be direct plug and play for the Fit as well. So there are 2 motor swaps right there. Buying, importing, and swapping virtually the exact same motor would be ridonkulous.
If you are that serious about the Sprintex kit, then why not just go ahead and buy it then (with the money you'll save not buying a JDM 1.5 motor, harness, and ECU) pay to have someone retrofit to our motor. This will save you THOUSANDS.

Lyon[Knightroad] pretty much laid out a step-by-step guide in the Forced induction subforum. It was a little wordy, but maybe direct links on where to buy, how much, what to wear, what to eat, what not to say on a first date.
A real step-by-step-by-step. I'll help anyway I can. I'm throwing money at a JDM front end conversion first. I'm also starting to build up a spare K24 I have....but I'd really like to keep the Fit's 1.5 L and boost it.
FIC or other comparable tuning device
Turbo
Ebay R18 Turbo Manifold
Intercooler
Blow off valve
Injectors
IC piping
Wideband
Boost gauge
Oil lines
Oil cooler
Sockets
Brain
Wallet
Then have someone fab you an exhaust if you don't have a welder. Get a tune.
Enjoy

I think too many people are looking for "bolt on power". I've got news for you, anything you do is going to require some customization.
In my experience, if its a bolt on kit, the gains are not not worth the money. You'll spend more money and time customizing and upgrading the kit than if you just went custom in the beginning.
The EGR is not reason to swap motors. Thats just insane!

It's occurred to me that the best way to handle this is with a mini-site that with an active webmaster. Then people can put links in the sigs and whatnot. It's too messy around here to get anything done right. Really wish I had the time right now.
I think a new age of car enthusiasm is going to have to emerge as our "hobby" looses the F&F generation to the rigors of the "real life", and the world's economy tanks.
It's back to DIY like the hotrodders of old. Like my dad, who bought his first car in the 50s. A Ford Model A that was being used as a chicken coop. He made car-friends, learned, and worked his ass off so it would lay down rubber and look like a beaut. I never had the space, time or money to wrench, but now that I'm a bit older, well, I still have none of those things lol. New goals. New frontiers. For my pops, who's still boostin' in his 70s in a much cooler car than me!

LOL. That's about really all I have to say about most of the hate going on here. As for the L15 motor swap question I asked that everyone is getting all bent out of shape about, relax. Holy fuck. LOL. It's a question, and was a thought I had. Just exploring options. Isn't that what this about? Isn't that why there's a forum? LOL. Unreal.
As for there being a "turbo kit" available for the ge8, sorry but I want a fucking kit. Not a mishmash of parts that "might" work, and let me down while I'm driving my fit as a daily driver to work. I don't have shit tons of money to dump into another motor is this one blows. This being my only means of transportation if it shits the bed, I'm out. So for saying there is a kit available I'll have to disagree with you IMO. Once my fit becomes my project car and it can sit in the garage for months while I build the car up, then yea, I'll piece a kit together.
Why I'm on here trying to defend what I asked, or anything like this is beyond me. Your tired of reading about people complaint about this and that and no turbos for cars and all. Most people know fuck all about turbo. So for turbo king to get upset for regular people having issues and not understanding shit, doesn't set a good image. You've offered to help me with a turbo setup, but finances aren't there, and along with a garage built turbo kit, they aren't realiable enough for me to do it. The extent of my turbo knowledge goes to friends that have them, and seeing all their headaches.
In saying that, a reply like /begin rant /end rant shit is something that will push people away from the site. Me personally, I don't give a fuck, and I'll still ask you for help if/when I get a turbo. But for someone new posting, and you give them a reply like that, you really think they will reply, or post again? Yes, it's the internet, and blah blah blah, but that's the easy way out. Bah. /end rant. LOL

I think with some organization and dedication, a reliable kit can be offered and be a tried and true solution, but via a more DIY movement. If some "tuner shop" came out with a kit here in the states, would you buy it? How is it any different, or better, than something that is pieced together and supported by a lot of knowledgeable people. Instead, you'd rather get something that was done in a similar fashion, by a small group of people in AUSTRALIA? Good luck being up at 3am during their business hours to get a question answered. You are about as far away from the type of reliable service you want.
Also, like Honda is going to warranty ANY of this.
