Is this a piece of my new Fit?

Hello! I'm proud new owner of a 2012 Fit Base MT (PMM); I love it!

However, this morning after the front passenger door was slammed, I noticed this piece of metal rattling around in the front door storage bin. It's a couple of inches long, next to my Fit key, for scale.

My big question is, What is it? Also, how important is it?

I know it looks like a bent paperclip, but it's definitely not--too precisely shaped, and the wrong dimensions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Doesn't look too precisely shaped to me, still has small ridges here and there. Looks just like a bent paperclip to me. <shrug>

I third the paperclip.

Probably a bored tech while doing the dealer check.

Thanks everyone, on much closer inspection, I'll grant that it is possibly a paper clip and admit that I'm paranoid about my new car--particularly when the 15.5 y.o. son starts beating on it before he even gets a learner's permit.

Good luck with that! Been there done that a few years back... New drivers need break-in periods too... Do it well and hope for the best. Had my son do oil changes and tire rotation, so he knows how and appreciate importance of basic maintenance. Don't learn, ride the bus! Then made sure he had ample behind-the-wheel time (accompanied) till I was confident in his skills, reaction time, what to watch out for, etc. on top of (driver's ed and instructor time). I think it's just the responsible thing to do before you let him loose into the "jungle". But that's just me... the challenges of parenting... Just remember Forest Gump!

Now if I can only keep him from scraping that front spoiler... Good luck!

That is a paper clip that was bent out of its original form
for use during the pre-delivery inspection of your vehicle.

It is a customer satisfaction issue for you to have found
this tossed into the bin on the passenger side door.

The car is new... there should be no crap like this inside
to cause the new owner concern... no matter how trivial
it may seem.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression--my Fit isn't **brand** new, I took delivery almost three weeks ago and have almost 800 miles on it already.

SurlyTeen has a long history of leaving crap in my car, so (on reflection) odds are that he bent a paper clip and left it in the bin.

Take said paper clip and stuff it in his underwear.

I'm not sure what that is.

But I'm pretty sure with a little work you could make it into a paperclip.

That's a S-shaped door pin. It holds the door to the body of the car.

It is a "S" hook designed to hold your fast food drive through bag
either inside or outside the car.
