Check Engine light is on

This morning my check engine light appeared on my 2008 Fit.

It has 65k miles and well maintained at Honda dealership. I was going to take it in tomorrow to change oil because it was on 10% but the light came on today so I went to jiffy lube to change it. Engine light is still on, and coded

Definition:

* VTEC Oil pressure swith circuit low voltage

Probable Cause

* Check Oil level and pressure
* Open or Short circuit condition
* Failed VTEC Pressure Switch

I got these at AutoZone cause dealership was closed.

My question is, whats do they mean and do they sound expensive????

Dealer said $390 to fix. He would not give me any details to whar part it was other than " P2647 Faulty VTEC Solenoid / switch assembly" Is he ordering the whole assembly or just the switch?

He said the thing switch was stuck on the "ON" position.

Switch

Assembly

Did they run through the diagnostics or just tell you that based on the code?

Based on the code I guess. They put it in the stall, and hooked up the computer, thats it.

I can get the switch from $15-$55, removing and replacing dont look hard. Now the assembly I would probably let them do.

If it were me, I'd clear the code and see if it came back before having it fixed. Might be a transient that won't repeat.

edit: although "stuck on the on position" doesn't sound transient.

good way to read/clear codes

If you need to clear the codes, don't have a reader, and have an Android smartphone, this is a good combination:

Android app: Torque — OBD2 Performance and Diagnostics for your Vehicle

OBD-II Bluetooth interface: Amazon.com: PLX Devices Kiwi Bluetooth: Automotive

You can read the OBD data in real time and and upload to a server, as well.

Glancing at the service manual for that DTC, it could be either the switch or the whole assembly. It depends on what the computer told them.

Everyone was saying it was on the passengers side, but it ened up being on the drivers side of the block. Took about 5 minutes to change the part and about $75 for the part including the o-ring. took about half a day for my light to come off. VTEC KICKED IN YO!!!!

Too bad Honda charges so much for such a fix, but that's their life blood.
