Honda Fit EV 2011 L.A. Auto Show
Just browsing the current news and saw some pics of the latest concept Fit EV (different from last year's snub-nose build). Cosmetic difference that I can spot from last year is it appears to have the longer front nose of the USDM and has the USDM tail lights and headlights. $36k and I only saw prices for the lease ($399/mo). 123 mile range.
Personally I couldn't find this type of vehicle practical. It's roughly $20k over the price of a base Honda Fit!

5 Lug... Will be desired for conversion parts...
Personally, i wouldn't mind an EV fit as my commute is now 7 miles each way. I do occasionally have to drive 25 miles additional on any one day but never having to buy gas again would be nice. If the average "city" driver (those who would likely be the primary customer) gets 29mpg and were to drive 13000 miles/year; at the current gas rates, that would be almost $1700 worth of gas/year. The Fit EV likely will also have the options of the sport and maybe even the Navi as standard as there likely won't be very many versions/options on this vehicle. The cost difference here is cut down to probably 17k which is still a lot but if you factor in many rebates etc... the price continues to fall. Federal tax credits can be anywhere from $2500 to $7500 for Qualified vehicles which in some circumstances will drop you down to around $9500 over a Base fit. Add in state credits & other rebates and you might be able to get the difference down to $7000 4 years worth of gas.
Granted all of the above is hypothetical but in some cases, it's likely doable. It's definitely not for everyone though.

why yes you do... I was looking to see about rear discs but still drums. A conversion shouldn't be difficult especially with the 5 lug. Already in place. Unfortunately, adapting the independent rear to a non-EV is likely not an option. Might give hope however for the next Gen FIT. 2015?
