want to upgrade wheels / rims ... some questions first

I am the proud owner of a PMM 2012 bast model Fit (5 speed manual) and one of the first things I want to do is replace the stock hubcaps with something a little better looking.

I was wondering, is the recommended process just to find some 15" wheels (like on tirerack.com for instance) and then have them installed by a local shop? What should I anticipate for the cost of this kind of service?

Is there anything I need to have the shop do to the TPMS?

also, forgot to ask...

I am planning to keep the 15" tires, and just add the wheels. Will I lose a substantial amount of MPG due to the additional weight?

Aerodynamics might lose you a bit. Trmotorsports at $80 are a good deal. Have the local guy move the tpms. Tire rack can set you up and tell you the costs.

Go to a tire shop and ask them. Prices vary greatly.

Mounting & Balancing here costs about $12-$20/wheel.

The OE Tires are really pretty lousy so you may want to consider ordering tires too. If you buy the Rims from tireRack or Discount Tire and buy tires locally, the Mounting & Balancing is almost always free. you also often times get free tire rotation (every XXXX miles) as well as additional benefits. The last two sets of tires haven't been ordered tires from Tirerack or DTD as the cost often balances out with shipping (and shops around here match TireRack and DTD's price)

Thanks for the info everyone!

Stormsurfer: I think I want to eventually do a few mods to my new car but I definitely would lean towards a minimalistic style. There is a car thread on this forum that I am inspired by, and I want to create something similar but matching my Polished Metal Metallic color instead of white. Check it out:Name: IMG_0387.jpg

Find what you want on tirerack or Disount Tire, and often, a local shop will match them. They can get them in, mount them and do the tire pressure system all at the same time. Way simpler.

Agreed.

We did this for our Ridgeline and also for mounting/balancing the Fit's winter shoes. shop around and remember what the final cost is (tax, mounting, balancing) Most local places will be close if not lower with all services included. They also might offer additional services (we get lifetime tire rotation every 6K miles/6 months on the Ridgeline.)
