purchasing a bluetooth speakerphone that attaches to the visor is one option (Parrot?)

The other option would be to replace the radio for an aftermarket one that has bluetooth.

There are no Honda or aftermarket options for upgrading the stock head.

 

I use a solar-powered bluetooth hands-free kit in my car. The benefits include never having to worry about recharging the batteries. Amazon has iogear and LG models reasonably priced at around 30-40 dollars.

The Canadian Fit has bluetooth standard for 2012. Their non-nav radio looks the same as our 2012 radio. Wonder if that would be a possibility?

Me too and best part is I figured out how to use it

 

I have a parrot MiniKit Slim and also the Garmin solution which both work well. I've moved over to Belkin's Aux input Car adapter which has a 12v Accessory plug (with usb charger), a single button (with microphone built in) for placing/receiving/ending calls (and for starting/pausing music) and it plugs into the Aux input on the FIT. I got this because I now use my phone for music, navigation, etc... and I don't want to hook up stuff when I hop in the car (as my commute is less than 10 minutes). I used to plug the car into the cradle and it went to the aux input and that was fine for a 35 minute drive. With my 8min commute, I find that i forget the phone in the car if I use the cradle so the belkin bluetooth works great. Press the button twice and I'm listening to music. (I still need to figure out where to mount it though. Right now it's under the parking brake)

If you don't have a droid or iphone with GPS, go the garmin route
The Parrot minikit slim is nice and feature rich for a BT speakerphone but the battery needs to be recharged every few days if regularly used. If not, every few weeks is fine (uses mini USB, not Micro USB) - I use this with my Blackberry and the Belkin with My Droid X2

Lastly, a Decent head unit replacment isn't a bad Idea if the cost isn't bad for you.

While the USB connection can be added to an older radio via a plug in module (and that's a couple hundred dollars), I think bluetooth would require changing the head, plus the steering wheel switches, microphone etc would be difficult to manage. The cost of this would be prohibitive compared to an aftermarket head.

That looks like a good option. I like that the USB connection is on the back so you can route it wherever you want instead of having a fob sticking out of the dash. And the bluetooth will pair with a media device for playing music (is that common?)

How visible is the display in direct sunlight? That's sometimes a problem. I like the Fit's stock back-lit LCD. I also like "radio data system" for telling me what I'm listening to (none of the aftermarket radios seem to have this).

 

That makes sense. The cheapest most oem looking/fuctioning setup would be to go aftermarket I think. It looks like the 2012 Canadian fit uses the U.S. navi model steering wheel. That alone would be pricey! Wish it was just a simple plug and play problem.

 

Yep, I routed the USB back through the stock opening but it could really go anywhere. I think what they mean by bluetooth music media is if you wanted to stream Pandora from your iphone to your car speakers. I really like the hands free calling. People are amazed that I have this feature in a Fit! The backlight is fine, even in the day. Good luck w/ your decision but this was a simple solution for me.
