Static Electric Shock

I did a search and could not find anything on this topic so i will go ahead and take a shot here:
In January I purchased a new 2012 Honda Fit Sport and never ever have i had a car shock me so much. Everytime i get out of the car , step out, and touch the door to close it, the door shocks me hard. This is no little shock, one time it actually came very close to burning my finger and was moderatley painful. These are the most powerful series of shocks i've ever experienced. Is anyone else having issues with this or know how to prevent it?

It's either your clothes combined with the seat fabric or a weird event with your tires. Since the tires are oem, I'd be surprised if it were the tires.

Well known issue with our cars and the simplest solution I've found is to put your hand/finger on the door sill and keep it there until you touch the ground. This will ground you and eliminate that nasty shock.

What is the humidity in your car?

Try misting everything down and get everything nice and steamy once, to see if that reduces the static.

Both my GD and GE have the same problem over the last 3 and 4 years. I think I could power my house with the electricity. I just live with the blasts... it helps me wake up from a boring drive.

This has been bugging me so much I was about to post about this myself!

Yea, I get BIG static electric shocks consistently. Mostly wear Levi blue jeans and Nike running shoes. Must be from rubbing on the fabric seats.

Funny thing is my 09 zapped the crap outa me, but my 2012 does not. They have different fabric seats for sure, between the two. Could be that. Could be that I've developed a habit to avoid the shock now and I don't even think about it anymore. But I haven't been zapped once yet by the 2012.

I have seat covers on both my Fits and still does nothing to stop the lightning on certain days.

I have to remember that one. I have started closing the door by touching the window. and I have finger marks all in one area of the glass. The other day I went to kiss my girlfriend after exiting the car and we both got zapped.

I get shocked all the time. I have learned to use a clothed part of my body to shut the door. I think it is my shoes that are to blame rather than the car though. I have to remember to ground myself every time I turn off my amp in my room. Winter plays a big part though.

I'm still doing the wrist-bone to door frame touch every time I exit the fit for discharge purposes. every place else seems to sting when zapped.

Yup, nothin' like a waker-upper when touching that door handle. On a previous car I had (Corolla), I installed a static discharge strap that I picked up at an auto parts store (don't remember, been a while). After a while I was more annoyed at people rolling down their windows at a light and yelling there was something hanging from my car.

Zap if you do and zap if you don't.
