Coolant Service

On the '09 Fit that I service, the owner just passed 60k.

Considering a coolant drain and refill in the coming weeks to keep the system in good condition. I will of course, be using Genuine Honda Type II.

Has anyone done this service on a Gen2 Fit before? How much will be needed for refill? Is it true that not much coolant drains out of the block?

Thanks.

Actually, when I found out my coolant was low (if there's a leak... it's REALLY slow)... I asked the parts guy at the dealership...

he said no need to do a flush... just add coolant when needed.

O.O?!?

Surprising, since the dealership would most likely benefit from having customers paying them to do the flush.

BUT... since it is listed as an MM item... I found the capacity in manual.

Engine coolant

Automatic transmission
Change (*2)
- 1.19 US gal (4.5 L)
Total
- 1.32 US gal (5.0 L)

Manual transmission
Change (*2)
- 1.16 US gal (4.4 L)
Total
- 1.29 US gal (4.9 L)

(*2): Including the coolant in the reserve tank and that remaining in the engine
Reserve tank capacity:
0.116 US gal (0.44 L)

Well I'm changing it due to time/mileage, not due to the level.

It looks like I will need 2 gallons of pre-mix. Curry Acura has free shipping and the coolant is $15/gal there. I'm sure my local dealer wants $25/gal + tax.
