Trans axle "blew up"

Just recently I was feeling on and off vibrations and clunking sound with the fit. The clunking issue is more apparent on stop and go driving. The vibrations usually appears when I hit 40mph. Two days ago I dropped my fit for service and told them exactly that and thought it was an trans issue... well it was exactly that. The trans axle "blew up" is how they described it. It's still in warranty so no issues there... but the red flag was raised when they sent in the report as the fit has modified in the tire/wheels and suspension. They have to send a Honda service district representative to check on the car if it voids the warranty and that's counting and seeing if it was abused.

So today I got that call and the verdict was in... I'm covered! Despite the modification, the district rep found the car not abused and the mods has nothing to do with it. They (O'Hare Honda) was told by the rep that this was the first that they have encountered... a trans axle that "blew up" on the Fit, hence on an AT for most part. They only way that this could happen they said if I launched the thing of a drag strip from neutral to 1st (which I have not done LOL)

anyway so there it is... a busted trans axle on a 1 yr 9 month old AT fit with a few miles shy of 14K on the odo.

Since there was no history of abuse and can't find fault on the mods... "Defective" is all they can come up with. I'll get more details when I pick it up and see the job orders.

I don't think I'm having luck with Honda anymore... or maybe Honda just ain't cutting it up to specs no more.

Last year was a broken valve on my 2010 4WD Crosstour
Now a busted axle on the 2010 FIT

talk about tough luck... ugh!

Good thing it's still under warranty. I should have mine checked out too before my warranty is out later this year. About 3 times the engine 'lost power' on me...the engine won't go over 2000 RPM and the only way to get it back is to stop the car and turn off the engine.

If you want to retain and mail me the broken bits I can try and determine what went awry for free.

My guess is honda will want them to do the same research. Parts fail it happens with any mechanical product that is mass produced. You can have a 99.9 success rate but if you are .1 it still sucks. Honda warrantied it get it fixed and move on.

Anxious to know the verdict or what they'll (Service Dept.) put on the ticket. Hope everything works out Evil!

transaxle or axle shaft assy?

What exactly was the part that failed? Is it one of the CV axle shafts, or the tranny?

Like a spinning top... Fit is perfect and like new again.
This 44305-TK6-A00 - Honda DRIVESHAFT ASSY., R. was replaced along with with other needed parts and lubricants/oil. An alignment was also done and a Mobil1 oil change. Total cost was close to $900... paid only for the oil change
As for the cause... "defective part" is what they're telling me. Didn't really get more into it as I was already burnt for the days work... all I know is that I'm a happy camper again plus their head tech did the work
