tow hitch for 2012 Fit

Hello,
I've been searching like a mad man... to try and find a hitch for the fit. Only ones i've found are the smaller sized ones 1 1/4". Unfortunte for me, i already have a nice 2" 4 bike platform bike rack and not looking to buy another rack just for the fit. Using the ultra friendly Google/Youtube searches. I stumbled upon a company that makes custom ones. I called them up and talked to them, they sound like a great company. However I wasn't sure if anyone else has dealt with them before. Could somone let me know if they have or haven't or possibly be intersted or live in the area that could help me? they are located in washington state and it seems they are making hitches for other smaller cars that want this option as well.

The Fit (any year) is not rated for towing anything. Only Class I hitches are made to bolt onto the Fit (and are only available as after-market). If you want to use a 2" size draw bar or attachment like a bike rack on the 1-1/4" Class I receiver, just buy any of the three brands of Class I hitches, and weld a Class II 2" receiver extension to the top of the Class I draw bar. My bet is that this will be much less expensive than having a custom trailer hitch made simply to provide a 2" receiver.

The other advantage of welding up a Class I/Class II adapter draw bar is that the welded piece raises the bike rack or trailer tongue to a height that keeps it from hitting the pavement when driving onto steep driveways or over sharp dips.

The custom-made hitch is bound to be more expensive than the Curt, Reese, Hidden Hitch or other available Honda Fit hitches already sitting in somebody's stock, and the custom-made hitch probably won't fit as well and will be harder to bolt up to your car than the currently available Class I hitches.

You can buy hitches, draw bars, extensions, balls and trailer wiring at good prices with quick shipping at:

I agree. Harbor Freight tools sells plenty of step-up from 1 1/4" to 2" receiver adapters, and vice versa, specifically for accessories. I've attached a tow hitch to every car I've ever had. My rule of thumb is that a car can easily pull and stop a load that is 1/3 the weight of the pulling vehicle, so for a smaller car like the Fit, lightweight trailers and loads are the order of the day. Class 1 is the only type of hitch appropriate for this car.

Good suggestion-- I found a short adapter on the harborfreight site and sent the link to the OP. I needed the extra height that the stacked adapters would give me, so I welded up my own. If the short adapter that harborfreight sells for around $18.00 will work for him, that cost plus the cost of a Class I hitch already made for the Fit will be much lower and fit better than a custom-made hitch that is fabbed up by someone who doesn't intimately know the Fit.
