I average 36 mpg using A/C and 38 without. I always coast down for freeway off ramps.

Just coming in to say that on my new commute I only average 40.....

In stop & go traffic the entire way, regularly sitting through a red light three or four times before I can make my left turn.

I don't know how you guys can achieve a respectable 40mpg. I, on average, get about 12km/L which is roughly 28mpg. The best I've done was about 32mpg. Never managed to achieve the advertised 20.5km/L (48mpg).

Wow, I've never achieved lower than 30 MPG. I always use regular gas and my car is stock. If you want more corroboration, check out Fuelly - Track and Compare your MPG. I track my car's MPG there and I notice that there is a noticeable (5-10%) decrease in my MPG during the winter; it's probably because of the anti-icing/anti-freezing fuel additives.
Inflate your tires to 35 PSI. Go easy on accelerating from stops.

I pump mine 36psi with NO2 (Nitrogen) and get 38 to low 40 mpg. Next thing I do is 1 step cooler spark plugs and 93 octane= 10 more hp and squeezing out even more mpg. It also depends on elevation changes lowers mpg. I live in Eastern NC. Things are at or under sea level. When I travel it's either I-40 or I-95 which stays flat. Good luck to you.

38+ mpg

I use bridgestone etopia tires made for fuel milage, and I keep them at about 38 Psi. I utilize a high flow K&N air filter, but I utilize the original air box. Sometimes I use a non ethanol gasoline. I do see numbers in the low 40's with use of a non ethanol gasoline. Above all else I am driving at the posted limit, or 5 below. If it is dark out, raining, etc... I will keep to the right lanes, and not afraid to follow trucks. I use cruse control!

I noted a fuel milage increase with the use of Michelin Energy tires, and a higher increase with the current Bridgestone, Etopia tires. I do courier work and keep the car in great condition. Oh, and I use the highest gearing possible. I have a M5 transmission.

often stop and go. Too many traffic lights. Speed limit on city streets is 50kmh. Highway/Expressway - 70 to 110 depending on where you are. Mostly 80kmh. You never go more than 30 mins of highway driving before you hit a traffic or a traffic light.

the psi on my car is at 34 (cold). The gas here is a minimum of 93 but costs roughly HKD14.45/L (Cost about 500HKD ($65USD) to fill up my tank).

I rarely turn on the AC if I'm the only one in the car.

Stop & go with too many lights = bad mileage.

A good day for you is when it sucks less, getting better numbers than you normally do.

From what I recall, I've been seeing 40 mpg @ 65 mph, 33@75, 25@90. Flat highways, sea level, K&N drop-in filter.

Sticking to speed limits and leaving early for work help lol

it all depends on where you are driving and if you need to use ac/defrost on a regular basis.
stop and go, mpg is going to drop, under 65, and not so much stop and go, and nothing special is required to achieve 40mpg
