I live in Tampa ang go to Disney World all the time. It is a 1 hour drive on a STRAIGHT highway. I tend to go alot higher than the speed limit and was thinking that cruise control set at 78 MPH instead of me going 70, 80, 95 MPH will save alot of fuel. In other words in MY CASE is it worth paying all that extra cash for cruise control?

 

dont post that you're going to drive illegal speeds.


the Fit was intended for surface roads. with you driving as such,
you're better off with a civic if you plan on saving gas.

cruise will not net you much mpg improvement at those speeds.
if you're cruising at 60-65mph i think it can save you some gas.

 

Yes, cruise will be worth it, becuase along woth cruise you get alot of other great little goodies.

i like cruise control regardless what speeds im going.

i can adjust the speeds with my fingers. pssh.. who needs to hit the gas on the freeway.


i loved it. i drove all the way from san diego to the BAY area on cruise control bout 90% of the way. its just convenient. but at those speeds you roll.. i dont think it will help out much

 

It totally saves gas on long trips as long as you don't get somebody who speeds up and slows down as they pay attention to things.

 

I'm getting far better gas mileage by a) slowing down and b)coasting than I got using cruise control. My best tank so far has always been my last one, and the most recent one was 44 mpg combined city and highway.

P.S. I drive about 25k per year, 90 % highway.

 

I have noticed that a certain percentage of drivers -- when their foot is on the accelerator -- are constantly accelerating and decelerating a few MPH without realizing that they do it. That's a big opportunity for cruise to help you get better mileage.

If you find that your speed creeps up when you are driving without meaning to do so, that's another reason to go to cruise.

The advantage of cruise is that it smooths out your driving. I sometimes drive rural interstates at night, and I've found that I can find a speed, set the cruise and not have to come out of cruise for a hundred miles or so. I might have to occasionally accelerate a bit to avoid being 'pinned' behind a slow truck by a passing car or line of cars, but that's about it.
