Downshift while cruise control on

On my way home after work today, with cruise control set at 45MPH, I was going down a hill and when the computer decided I was coasting too fast (about 55MPH), my AT Fit downshifted on its own. Is this normal? I have never noticed it before.

The 2000 Dodge Stratus ES I had would do that. Would drop a gear to slow the car down to the speed cruse control was set at.

That's good to know.
Has anyone noticed this in a Fit?

My Fit isn't an AT, but every Auto I've driven does this... In my mom's Passat, you can engage the cruise at 25MPH and it'l run through all the gears.

It's normal. The car is trying to maintain the set speed.

OK, thanks, Gentlemen.
I haven't had a car newer than my 1999 Camry, and it would coast just as long and as fast as you let it. Likewise the other cars with cruise that I'd had before that one.
I let the car do it again today, on purpose, and it is perfectly cool with me. I had that squirrel-induced transmission control problem before,

and it made me a little paranoid, I guess!

Smart car, isn't? It happened to me lots of times (long road trips down in the States) when with the cc set at my chosen cruising speed I encountered either a slower moving vehicle or an up/downhill and the computer kept the cc speed all the time by engine break when the car started going faster than the cc or d/shifting for a very short time when going slower than the cc, either way until the cc speed has been reached again... very reliable, very smooth, love it

I have been using the S drive in my A/T almost all the time lately experimenting with keeping the RPM around 2 . I haven't used cruise control yet but I have had it auto downshift on me mainly when I go to fourth on an uphill instead of sitting in 3rd. Usually it is smarter than me, I, no no, me. LOL

Idling is at 1K, keeping it at 2K is like pretending driving, I think will take you 2 minutes to reach 40 mph, and at 70+ mph you cannot go bellow 3K, maybe 2.8K... hopefully you won't be in front of a tough 18-wheeler driver who cannot pass you because of the size and lane restrictions (they are not allowed to drive in the left lane)...

I'm not talking about driving on the freeway CB19. You've got issues. Every link on here you start going off about slow drivers. I get to 40mph just fine. If you use S from a stop you can get up to forty pretty quick. I am talking about up shifting to fourth quicker to keep the RPM down when I'm in town. Obviously at seventy + the RPM is above 2K. I think you enjoy driving in peoples rear though. There might be something there. I agree the left lane is for passing and I don't like people driving in it holding steady at the speed limit, it p***s me off too!

OK, next days do a road test, stay at traffic stop and then reach the 40 mph speed but never exceeding the 2K rpm/gear, and then please tell me exactly (as in full honesty) how long (min and secs) it took you to get to 40 mph... also I'll do my part (full honesty as well) and tell you how long it takes me to get to 40 mph (60 km/h in my area) never bellow or above 3K rpm/gear... interesting test, right?
