Fit windshield scratches easy?
Hi, this is a great site and I am fairly happy with my new Fit. I bought a new 2011 Fit Sport in December and in January I saw scratches on the windshield. I couldn't tell if it was from using a plastic ice scraper or if it was the wipers. One scratch from bottom of glass to the top appears to be wipers, two others were more horizontal so perhaps both.
I just noticed today that after the last day of rain I have yet another brand new scratch bottom to top of windshield clearly from the wiper. I keep the glass clean and wiper blades cleaner than any other car so it isn't like I am not mainting the glass. I wipe them down every weekend for sure. Are these scratches normal? Is Honda glass too soft?
I came from a 99 Pontiac Bonneville with no such scratches after 12 years, just normal windshield pitting. I am frustrated. Anyone else experiencing this?
As a quick aside, are wipers supposed to leave long wide streaks of water at the edge of the big and small blades when in use? Not a big deal just weird. To rule out bad blades I guess.
Thank you.

This car has the softest window glass I've ever seen, I scratched my windshield just cleaning bird poop off the glass with a damp paper towel. The back window has several DEEP scratches that could have only come from wiping the glass while cleaning it. I try to be careful, but I've NEVER had a scratch on the window glass of any other car I've owned.

Pretty much all of the above.
Fit glass is fairly fragile i've found. I need to replace my windshield as it's got a pretty bad crack on it, as well as several stars from rock hits. Going to replace soon but i'd almost rather put it off since I keep getting chips in it
Lowering my insurance deductible just to cover the glass next time it cracks, because I KNOW there WILL be a next time.
Is there some sort of windshield armor overlay or something you can use like a clear tint?

sorry to hear that, how old is your car? did they snap the plastic clips on your cowl putting the new screens on?

I am a pilot, and don't have time to watch them.

I must be the statistical outlier - I've only had one stone chip in my 42,000 miles of mostly highway driving, which I was able to repair myself. Otherwise, the windshield (and all of the other glass) looks great.

on my 2nd
on my 2nd windshield and this aftermarket glass is doing its best to hold up in spite of the amount of rocks and debris being hurled at it due to the historical amount of highway construction going on in NJ!
that said days with beautiful sunsets, I can see all of the pits and scratches on my windshield. At first I thought it was sap and went crazy trying to clean...
wonder if there is a product to remove minor scratches (like a polisher or headlight restorer). Then again dont want to weaken the glass further....

+1, scratching is one thing, but if you've been in this forum awhile you know the glass is prone to cracking.
Definitely good advice to get low comprehensive deductible (which you should analyze anyway what you are getting for a high deductible really)
If things are way scratched up, I think you are better off just saying it's the cost of ownership of this car and budget for a new windshield.
Whether you choose to commit some minor insurance fraud is up to you though. The full "bill" for my repair would have been $450 claim to insurance. With cash out of pocket, the glass place would have cut off some of the price though.
