more ?'s regarding brake components.....
more ?'s regarding brake components.....
Good Morning,
So things have been going well since I swapped out my brakes and did a full bleed. After having gone there 4 or 5 times I can say that once you perform your first brake job, it'll take 1/2 the time the do another one.
Yet I have a question about retainers and return springs (various people refer to them differently: they can be brake retainers and the v clip that goes on the pads)
here are my questions:
1) Would you recommend reusing or replacing both?
2) the v springs are not symmetrical: they have a leg that is longer. Should that longer leg rest on the inner pad or the outer one?
Brake pad question:
1) I purchased a set of posiquiets that were far from quiet. Perhaps its the pads, perhaps it was an improper break in since I had to cut it short to tighten my lugs.
Can I resurface pads and redo the break in? I would hate to have to toss em.
Thanks in advance!

If the retainer still has the same shape, clean them (brake cleaner + brush) and reuse.
V spring: Doesn't matter where the ends go as long as the spring can push the pads away from the rotor.
Pad. Yes, you can try sandpapering the pad surface as well as the rotor surface, but that may not stop the squeaking. The actual noise may come from other parts of the brake components. If you plan to take out the pads, try lubing various metal to metal contact points using quality brake lube. I use permatex extreme ceramic brake lube. You may also want to make sure the sliding caliper bolt has been properly lubed.
