Fit engine noise - sounds 'clicky'
Hey all,
I just bought a new 2012 Fit about a month and half ago. Recently, though, I've noticed a weird noise coming from the engine, especially when I'm in low RPMs or idling in neutral. It sounds 'clicky,' like rapid tapping of some sort. Maybe the valves?
Is this something I should be worried about? I'm trying to get at least a few opinions before I spend an entire evening taking the car into the dealer.
Here's a video I took with the hood up - sorry for the terrible sound.

Thanks and I appreciate any help.

Sounds a little more noisy than mine, but the motor has a busy valvetrain and they've always been a little noisy. I wouldn't worry about it too much, there's lots of threads on here discussing the "clicky" motor if you search around a little.
Mine seemed to quiet down with some miles and switching to better oil (after break in oil and one 6k mile rotation with Honda conventional I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic).
If you take it to the dealership they'll probably just tell you it's normal, but if you're really concerned bring it in.

When I first got my Honda Fit...2010...I thought my engine was too "clicky"...and I can't honestly say whether it has been my adjusting to the noise, or the noise getting better with time and break in....or maybe a little of both.
But it doesn't bother me now...and I don't notice it as much. The Fit is IMO a great vehicle...but it's design, compact/ maximum inside-minimum outside...means the engine is close to the drivers compartment...and I think thus more potentially audible.
You are under warranty, so if you think it is beyond the norm, no harm in bringing the issue up with the dealership...you could even compare to another on the lot to see if yours is significantly louder.

These engines have a solid mechanical valvetrain with no hydraulic lash adjusters (lifters) like many other cars. Your last car probably had hydraulic. There is going to be some valvetrain noise. Periodic adjustment is not a bad idea. Too much clearance and you lose a bit of cam lift and power, plus more noise. Zero clearance is worse, no noise, but the danger of lost compression and even burned valves.
