Cargo Cover
Cargo Cover
Hello
I just got a 2012 Honda Fit Base and I LOVE IT! Been lurking around here a bit but thought I would join in the fun.
My question is...
I just picked up the OEM cargo cover today and installed it. However there is a significant space between the cargo cover and the rear of the back seat. Has anyone else had this issue? Did I install it wrong?

From what I understand (I have a '10, but haven't bought and installed the cargo cover), that space is normal. The back seats in our cars can be reclined a little, so the cargo cover leaves a space for the seat to be reclined. Those of us who keep the seat more upright will have the space, those who keep the seat reclined, won't.
Grab the latch handle on the top of your seat, pull up on it, and push the seat backwards.

I got my cover online from College Hills Honda. It's a genuine Honda product.
My Fit is a 2010. Did they maybe change it since then?
Hmm, I just looked on the College Hills Honda site and it looks like the cargo cover for the 2010 and 2012 Fits are different. The flap is missing on the 2012. Like I said a lot of people didn't use it anyway.

I've been thinking about picking up a cargo cover. I've been doing a little research and reading how to install them. I'm glad that the snaps are optional. I don't care to mess up the seats or seat covers when I do eventually get some covers.
Good to know!

I'm different I guess because I kinda like the flaps.
The snaps that you screw into the seat backs only poke a little hole into the covers. If I removed them I don't think it would be too noticeable since the cloth would close up a bit..

I did get it after the fact. Got it directly from the dealer for $140.96 plus tax.
If the old ones fit the 2012 and 2013s why do you think they got rid of the flap?
I installed the older model cover - with flaps - in my 2012. Easy job, measure twice, cut once. Found the factory holes for the screw in snap right where the instructions outlined. Taking them out will not leave a noticeable hole or mark due to the expandability of the seat back cover.

MMMM.... cheaper to make without them? No idea really. They work OK to shield the cargo area from observation, but if you keep them snapped to the the seatbacks you must remember to unsnap prior to expanding the cargo area by lowering seatbacks. Otherwise, damage might result to the cover itself.

Hi All,
I didn't realize the seats "reclined" which does close off the visibility. One more reason to love this car. However this reduces the volume of the storage compartment. Most could probably put the seats down but I have a little one who needs that space up front too.
I was thinking of making a storage cover like in the previous versions of the fit but without using the buttons and which would also get in the way, get knocked off or broken. I was thinking more about getting some matching fabric and putting some velcro on it.
I just tested and velcro does stick to both the seatback and the cargo cover. I won't be able to consider doing this until July so if someone thinks this is a good idea and tries it please let me know how it turns out!

In my previous car (a Nissan Cube), the flaps were attached with Velcro. It makes me wonder why Honda didn't choose that route. I would do the same mod but Velcro won't' work for me because my Clazzios cover the seat backs.
