If I only got 30k out of a given set of tires, I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. I don't have that kind of money to burn.
I think he was referring to the OEM Tires. I got about 27k miles out of my OEM Bridgestone tires. Some have gotten more, some less but most average around 30K from what I've read.

I am at around 63K on OEM Dunlop 7000 and have around 40% tread left.

A lot of people do not worry about saving tire from excessive wear.
Many also itch to replace OEM tires hoping to change the way the car drives.

OEM tires are 70K tires, easily, if one wants them to last.

I just bought a set of Michelin Premier A/S from Sam's Club. They were a better price then Tire Rack.

Sometimes you need to factor in, do I go cross country much. I use Discount because if I ruin a tire there is a good chance there is once of their stores close enough to help me out. I got stuck once having to buy a oddball tire to drive home cross country then replacing it when I got home because the tire was only available through a specific retailer. And I had to pack the bad tire with me to get the warrantee.

I always start at Tire Rack but also check Discount and local stores. I'm picky about tires though so I usually end up buying from the Rack.

Bought 4 hankook ventus v2 concept 2s. 61$ each on amazon with no tax and free shipping. Came out to 244, minus amazon 50$ credit card. Final price= $194.
WIll pay 60$ to have them mounted and balanced to local tire shop.

Bought 2010 rim for 65$ off ebay to have as a full size spare.

I have wider wheels (16x7) to run 205/50-16. I'm real happy with my General Atimax RT43. I keep them at 29-29.5 psi. I drive like an old man.
