Front Sun Strip Tinting - Worth it?

Getting quotes to have windows tinted on the Fit (50% rear/35% front). Based on tinting prices I've seen on other threads, the quote I got is really high. The quote for the Front Sun Strip alone is $60 for material and $100 for labor. For those out there who had a tinted sun strip installed on the top of the windshield, does it help with glare? Is it worth the extra expense? Just trying to cut costs where I can.

WOW, that is pretty high! I have it on mine and I'm definitely glad I got it. While it does cut down on some glare it allso makes the windshield feel a shorter....but in a good way. For that kind of price I wouldn't have done it though. The place that did mine only charged me $25 to add it on.

I have it on mine. I wasn't sure how it would look, but now I'm really glad I have it. These cars have a lot of glass, keeping it cool inside and the sun out of our eyes can be a challenge.

FWIW, I paid $200 to get all ten windows tinted.

I think it looks terrible personally. Tint the entire windshield.

This is Madico Window Film. A shop w/a great rep based on some research but crazy expensive...little over $600 for the job. Most folks who wrote reviews had cars much more expensive than the Fit.

I got a quote of $295 for the entire car including 6" windshield I would not do the driver and passenger windows to avoid being stopped. Of course it is illegal in NYS on a sedan which the Fit is classified however, minivans and SUVs is not. I am thinking of doing it anyway and take my chances.

It is like the lottery here some people drive without a front plate never get pull over and some do. Same with tint for it being illegal there is enough cars with tinted windows including patrol cars.

I find it really helps. I had a blue H added as well. My job cost $340 for all windows.

I did the Llumar Air Blue 80 on the entire front windshield. It made a HUGE difference in heat and a tad bit of glare. Since it lets 80% of the light through you can't notice it.

so they applied the tint on the outside of the glass? is that why your wiper/cowl trim is off the car?

i suppose for rock chip prevention that's a good idea.

that is is very high- I had mine done for $50. I asked to have the strip (they call it an "eyebrow") quite a bit wider than the law here specifies (the place said no one really checks, mine is approx 9 " wide and it does help when the sun is at certain angles

yup, i have 5% on my Civic all around and 2.5% halfway down on the front windshield. In the 7 years i've had that tint on, never once been pulled over...for anything actually.

Son in Law found professional installer that works weekends at home, his boss lets him laser cut stuff and gives him a good price. He didn't separate price of windshield strip. Illegal to cover whole window in Florida, I asked him to cover glass to bottom of rearview mirror, but he only did a inch more than the legal accepable line. No complaints, his $100 price was without shop warranty but I could have it for a price, didn't see a need as he personally guarantees his work. Dblik get another quote.

You can order a 6" wide strip of translucent black adhesive vinyl from
TFB Designs- Custom Vehicle Graphics, Signs, Apparel, Decals. It comes with easy to follow instructions, and mounts on the inside of the windshield so there is zero labor cost. It costs about $20.00 and stops glare, but you can still see traffic lights through it. I have used this on my 2009 Fit for 3-1/2 years and it works just as well as expensive tints. After 3-1/2 years, it looks exactly the same as it did when I applied it.

Back in 1998 Virginia made me remove the perfectly legal Florida tint I had on my '94 Civic before they would let me register the car when I moved. I was *not* happy, as removing window tint is one of the less fun jobs I've ever attempted. And yet I see cars to this day with VA plates that have *much* darker tint than my Civic had. I'll just run the a/c, thanks.

Police cars are exempt from the Florida front windshield law.
