fitting U.S. battery to a EU spec Fit

I have an European Union spec fit (aka Jazz) in the U.S. - long story.

My battery needs to be changed, only problem is that the EU fit seems to have some japanese style battery with a small terminal, and small terminal cables. U.S. Fits have bigger terminals.

Anyone suggest a DIY solution? Honda service won't touch it.

Have you looked at auto parts stores or other places where they sell car batteries to see if they have something appropriate? Most parts stores would be happy to help you swap out the battery for free or a nominal charge while you're there if you need assistance. (Do check that you have the radio code first.)

Car batteries are not exactly rocket science. If the replacement battery physically fits (and can be solidly clamped with the hold down strap thingy) and has terminals of an appropriate design, it should be OK, even if it's not exactly the same size or shape. If you have a choice, a greater capacity battery would generally be preferable; the Fit's (and presumably Jazz's) battery are none to large to begin with.

Is it a big difference?

If it has the integrated fuses in the positive cable, like the US version does, you may need to order the US version cables, and then get a US spec battery. Either that or order a EU spec battery from over seas.

I swapped out my cables with US ones, well not entirely. The positive is quite a pain in the ass to get to where it attaches at the motor, so I did a splice job on the positive cable to be able to use my Braille batteries and just using the US spec terminal end. Unless you can find a battery over there using the JIS size terminals it's a pain to try and fit them to more common SAE size, damn near impossible especially with the fuse block connection we have.
