Question Inaccurate Range indicator

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have problems with the range indicator, it's extremely positive and useless. I went to the dealer to have the software flash for the MPG reading TSB, but the range indicator is still way off.

are you referring the the MPG indicator? In the US, we don't have a Range Indicator, just MPG. Remember that you have 1.6 US Gallons left when the empty light goes off. The best thing to do is fill up until the first click on the pump, figure out your actual MPG and multiply that times the amount of fuel left in the tank (10.6gal - your fill up). This will give you the "range left"

You might find that the compute is closer than you think.

I am in Mexico, I always thought my version was the same, except from the wheels and interior lighting. Actually I have a kilometers per liter indicator, and a range indicator:

I hope the link above is working so you can see my pic.

We don't have the Range indicator, just the economy option. I'm aware you run km but the theory is the same for calculating your range. figure out your KM/litre then multiply it by the remaining litres (40.125 - whatever you put in for the fillup). Don't overfill as [I've found] the fit is most accurate at about the 1st click at the pump. Do that for a few tanks of gas and report back here.

This
Fill a 4 liter can of gas. Next time your low fuel light goes on put the can of gas in your hatch and continue driving until the engine runs out of gas. Then look at your range indicator and report back here what it shows. I suspect it will be closer than you think.

don't try this folks. Running a fuel injected/catalyzed car out of gas is potentially harmful.

Bah, sure if done repeatedly. But only doing it once and while expecting it also so you are quick to turn off the key, then no.

And maybe dangerous to run out of gas if you're on a highway...

Also to be technically correct it's when the low fuel light goes ON. I'm pointing this out simply because my prior car had a low fuel light that illuminated then went off and on several times before running out of gas.

Thanks for your responses, let me explain a little more. The range indicator works like this: When I fill up it shows 650-700km (400-440 miles), so it's somehow optimist but still achievable. Anyway, I don't drive like I'm dead or waiting to be, so it starts decreasing in a 1:1 ratio, so when I have 1/8 of a thank, it's still reading 200km of possible range, then I think it realices what a stupid reading that is and starts decreasing in a 1:20 or so ratio, so 20 km later it is showing 0 and at least 5 liters of gas left. Sometimes it does that adjustment at 3/4 of a tank, so it's not possible to get used to it and do your mental adjustments. Hehe I don't think I could go out gas, my OCD barely let's me go below 1/4 of a thank, I always fill up between 1/2 or 1/4.
