Oh no, when I say I was spinning my wheels... I assure you, I was spinning my wheels. I can hear the tire spinning on the wet ground.

That was never the issue.

At this point, forget any mention of slipping sliding or spinning.

At this point, I think the "roaring" is weather related (though more exaggerated than last time for some reason). But, the clunking is possibly the CV joint(s). I'm looking into replacing the whole thing, drive shafts and all (yes, both shafts).

Edit: thinking of doing it myself also.

FUCKING A!!!

Decided to check the actual air intake filter... no problem there. But on the other side of the engine, near the motor mount (by where you pour engine oil in), I found metal shavings. And it looks like its coming from where the bolt that goes top down through the mount into the engine.

I'm assuming, whatever issue I'm having is causing massive vibrations and the engine is slowly destroying the mount.

Glad you found it. I wonder how much damage is done by engine knock. I would replace all the motor mounts.

Golly Goobers! All of your threads are entertaining but this one is also confounding as hell.... Steve244 may be right on what he said in the first post... I've had my front wheels bounce many times on my Fit without breaking anything but I ended up replacing a CV joint outside of Hope Arkansas when driving on an ice covered interstate with occasional places that weren't iced over... If you are hear a crunching sound from one or the other front wheels when turning sharply it is more than likely an outer CV joint.. They are generally the first to go bad... The thing with the motor mount though sounds more like an inner CV joint and could be causing the jerking when letting out the clutch... There would be very noticeable vibration and a constant roar either way when you are driving that would become more intense when on the accelerator pedal or at high speed... You should be able to feel play in the side it's on by lifting the wheels off the ground, gripping an axle between the CV joints and pushing it side to side and back and forth and turning with the car in neutral on one side then the other.. There should be no play in them though a tiny bit won't matter as long as the same amount exist on both sides.... I looked for complete axle assemblies and didn't find any... I hope like hell you don't have to pay dealer price.. My shop manual says to replace the axles as a unit if a CV joint goes bad... Best of luck and hope to read some more of your wonderful rants but minus the broken parts... Too bad your not down here where it is 59 degrees at 12AM and I have tools and space to getherdone.

I'm starting to wonder if all of this is linked.

like, maybe the violent wheel hop I did, damaged the mount. which in turn is no longer buffeting the engine vibrations. and that is the catalyst to accelerated CV joint damage.

simply put, I will have to replace the half axles and motor mounts.

If you can't find complete axle assemblies, your new Shop manual will have instructions on how to install CV joints on the axle shafts if neither of them are bent... You must drive like I used to when I was between 16 and 38 and 44 and 62.... Just get a mess of tools, a shop manual, a mess of cash and a cheap old beater for when you break something and you can keep on enjoying driving any damn well you please..

Comprehensive insurance is another thing to check if Honda won't cover it (road damage).

Can you jack the front end up? Compare the 2 sides and look for a boot leaking and see if there is excessive play. I am thinking its just the motor mount for now. The engine is moving but there is a little play the CV joints have but if they are damaged it just started. You can rotate the wheel and see if there is noise or binding too.

I had a problem with my GD3 and they fixed it after having my car for a week. It worked fine for about 10,000 miles and the problem returned and they said every thing was fine and it still was under warranty I had 34000 miles on it at that time.

When you said the exhaust made noise I was thinking the motor mounts. When you but the springs on did you do a alignment to get them into Honda spec's and have a paper that says that. Honda will probably say the warranty is void because even when it was stock and under warranty they said ever thing was OK.

I am thinking my problem was the motor mount now. I had the 5 speed manual too.

so... it's not just the motor mount that's damaged.

it's the engine block WHERE the mount attaches that is damaged.

OH JOY!!!

Merry Christmas y'all!!!

I was checking my mail before going to bed when I saw this. Now I may not be able to sleep.. This is the first time I've seen anything like this.... I would check with Chris and see what he has to say about whether it is something that can be welded and who in your area that could do it... I hate that this has happened to you... It may be that a dealer service department could see it as a warranty issue... Good luck and best wishes to you....

It looks to me like the bolt/dowel-hole is missing a chunk on the side. I'd do my best to convince Honda a failure of the engine block is a drive train issue covered by warranty.

Failing that I'd find someone who can weld aluminum as coyote suggests.

Sorry for your problem; this really sucks. Wishing you a simple cheap solution...

Yeah, the angle I took the picture is kinda bad. You can't see it too clearly, but Steve is right, there's a huge chunk of metal that's missing on the backside.

I actually remember reading and seeing a picture of someone else that had similar damage (but I'm having trouble finding it). scratch that, found it... https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ount-help.html. I even posted there!!!

I dunno TC, I'm not too fond of welded-broken parts.

$84 part. whew. Labor is probably $300 though. And it may have issues with other mounts, cv joints.

yeah, I was worried it was a solid engine block... that doesn't look too "nasty."

But, no matter... I don't feel comfortable driving my Fit at the moment. The dealer was open, but only the sales department. The service guys were all off.

My sister's truck seems to be in need of a new battery... I mean, I've been living in this area for some 4 years now, and according to her, she replaced it 6 months before I came. It's been sitting in the back of the driveway for a LONG time, and even after yesterday's 1 hr idling and some driving, I don't feel comfortable driving that either. Each time I start it, it feels like the battery is about to go out. I told her, I think it's time for a new battery.

Little update? Big update? GOOD UPDATE!!!

Went to the dealership early this morning. After some diagnosing, the guy I was talking to said I shouldn't be driving the car anymore... it's in REALLY bad condition. The engine can fall off any moment. Apparently, that's the main support or something... since the other two are fine.

Good news? The repair is covered under warranty!!! In the famous words of Homer Simpson: WHOO HOOO!

I have to leave the car there until they finish the repairs and its gonna take at least 3-5 business days just for the parts to arrive... so who knows when I'll get my Fit back.
