sport mode gear indicator blank initially

Hi freaks,

I've been enjoying my 2012 fit sport for about a year now. I love the sport mode, more so for driving slow than going fast, and just all-around being in better control of the car. Anyway here's my question: the display does not show the current gear after I shift to sport mode, ie m1-5, until I hit the paddles. Is there a way to change this?

Only shows the gear you manually select.

After you shift into "S", it will stay blank until you engage it with the paddles.

Uhhhh I think that's a Honda Engineering and Design question...

It does this because only putting the gear selector in Sport mode will cause the transmission to have a different range of shift patterns. It's useful in hilly terrain. Once you pull one of the paddles it will be in "manual" mode.

As everyone else said, you need to actually tap the paddle to engage it into the full "manual" mode. Just a side note - if you're in 4th or 5th and throw it into sport it'll hold in 3rd until you make a shift or put it back in drive. Taking off it'll do the same - 1st, 2nd, then hold 3rd.

Oh, and you can start out in second gear using Sport mode, too. Useful if you're on ice. While stopped, put it in Sport mode then use the upshift paddle to engage 2nd gear. After a moment the transmission will shift. When you step on the gas you have less torque so as not to break traction.
