Consider this.. the USDM 1.5 VTEC motor is the largest outfitted motor the Fit comes with. Yet on other continents, it is actually trailer rated while still seating five.

You'll be fine, just load smart.
Yup, very true...
If I'm not mistaken the info below is for the 1.4L version.
hahaha, nice sig DSM.

But I think it was discussed before that this wouldn't work with the USDM Fits. not 100% sure though.

Check these previous threads for more info, some people have already installed aftermarket hitches on the Fit. https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-generation-ge-08-present/32886-hitch-receiver-etrailer.html & https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...er-2009-a.html

I wouldn't ever do that LOL, but that's true. I'm about 140lbs +/- 5.

I'm feeling pretty confidence thanks to everyone reflecting their experience. My main concern summarize:
-Carrying 5 people, in a pinch but usually have an additional 2 person average:
-Carrying ALL my luggage to college.
-Safely reaching my destination
Read the above info, and even do a search on this site... quite a few people have & do tow trailers with the Fit... as long as your safe about it it's no problem. Some one recently went cross country with a trailer, great thread ---> https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...ailer-fit.html

Just don't expect to do much passing on two lane roads going uphill!

Seriously, it's fine. It has more pickup than small V8s in the 60s/70s/80s. The suspension is well done for its design load.

Factory tires are a bit lacking, but they're rated for it too.

That bit about the tongue weight is key though.

Only 70lbs.

This should give you some insight into how the car needs to be loaded.

IIRC, those weights are in kg's.

That OEM optional accessory looks so clean, too bad it probably won't fit our USDM's. (although there are plenty other options for the USDM's)

You are probably right about it being in kilos lol

We're the odd ones out using imperial units.

Heavy stuff needs to go as close to the center of the car as possible.

Fit with Uhaul in tow

OP, here's a log thread you might be interested in reading from another FFreak who moved from VA to CA with a Uhaul trailer in tow: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/general-fit-talk/74260-log-towing-4x8-uhaul-trailer-fit.html

Maybe you'd want to touch bases with him. Good luck!

Thanks, I'm actually reading through all those posts. The general conclusion I'm getting is that the fit capable of my minor needs.

The Fit and Versa 2014 versa CVT are pretty similar in size, configuration, and price? I heard new Honda fit isn't out til 2015 :'(, at least I don't have any concern for settle for one of these vehicles.

Now only if it could tow... the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

per the factory ~

Maximum Load Limit

The maximum load for your vehicle is 850 lbs (385 kg).

Towing a Trailer

Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer. Attempting to do so can void your warranties.

I actually used the Fit for my last couple of years of grad school (with a couple of moves), and the Fit can certainly handle its designed max load weight. I've driven it with 5 people, and as everybody said, you'll certainly notice the difference in acceleration, but the car can handle it.

I had actually considered the Versa as well, but it has less usable cargo capacity than the Fit, and the fact that the rear seats in the Versa don't fold flat makes it more difficult to use that space as efficiently, which is pretty critical when moving .

I know you're going off to college and probably won't have a lot of furniture, so just to let you know, the Fit can also carry 69 folding metal chairs.

+1 for the Fit doing well with heavy loads. I drove about 50 miles with a cast-iron tub and sink in the hatch and, aside from needing a bit more breaking effort and 4th gear climbing hills on the highway, I didn't really notice the load making a difference.

It can handle it, I regularly stow over 600lbs during my Costco runs for water and beverages. Plus my weight (185lbs) and usually 1 passenger (130ish) with me during those runs.

I once had seven people (lightweight rowers, we averaged around 160 lbs) in my 48 hp diesel VW Rabbit. Was very slow up steep hills, like no greater than 25 or 30 mph, but we didn't hit any highway hills we couldn't take at highway speeds..

As someone said, owner's manual says max. capacity (including driver) 850 lbs. I drove my 2010 Fit AT loaded with me and about a dozen cartons of books (cartons were, if I remember, the ones that come with a ream of paper, so if the books weigh what paper does, 50+ lbs per carton). The drive (NYC to Boston) went fine, acceleration maybe even slower than normal, but no problem with it.

I just caution you that filling the back of the car with boxes stacked too high not only restricts your rearward visibility but in the event of an accident anything stacked high is going to come forward and possibly behead you.

I definitely notice a difference in acceleration but it can handle a full load of 5 people.

But most drivers can't handle the complaints of three adults stuffed in the back of a Honda Fit.
