Security system on a 2013
Security system on a 2013
The dealers were telling me that the Honda security system doesn't detect someone breaking your window and I should get an alarm. I ended up buying it because it lowered my APR. Did I just get ripped off?
Nevermind. I think I found the answer.
All Sports have OEM alarms/anti-theft systems.
Thats why the Base and Sport keys are different. The Sport has a keyfob key.

Breaking a window will not sound the alarm. The OEM alarm system does not have shock sensors; so it wont sound unless the doors, hood, or rear hatch is opened.

Yes, you got ripped off. They "lowered" your APR when you actually probably qualified for it in the 1st place.
They all say that: if you buy this alarm, lo-jack, paint protection, extended warranty... we will lower your APR... bull crap!

Stock security system even when equipped does not feature a glass break sensor, or a shock sensor. So if someone were to pound on your door with a hammer, or break the glass, the alarm will not sound. The only thing which will set it off, is when one of your doors is opened while the door is locked (meaning they reached in thru a broken or open window)
I have the Viper 5709 Security system with a 2 Way receiver and remote start. It has everything, Glass break, shock sensor, tilt sensor, and can even be equipped with a proximity sensor. Its saved my Fit once and sent a warning to my key fob next to me, caught the kids in the act

what? i locked the doors and then opened the door while it was "armed" and nothing happened figured all it had was a immobilizer.
I have a 2012 though..did 2013's come with something else?
and yes you got ripped off..the honda dealer alarms suck. you can spend less money on an aftermarket alarm that will be better.

I haven't actually verified that mine works; I should probably try it out sometime to satisfy curiosity.
what they all said. my 2012 came with the oem factory alarm, but its true what the honda dealer said. it all it has is an immobilizer via the transponder chip on your key. no other bells and whistles.
u can go to a local car audio shop and they can install a viper type alarm with a remote start for around $300 installed. it will work in conjunction with your oem alarm and will include the transponder unit that will memorize your key's chip just in case u go with a remote starter.
my viper also comes with the smart start (pay extra + subscription fee) which allows me to use my android phone to start, unlock, lock the car. iphone also has the app. besides the two way paging, the smart start will also send a message to your cell phone letting u know if your alarm has been triggered. awesome, if you are beyond the 2000~ foot range.
and indeed your dealer ripped u off with the lowering your apr.

The 2012's and 2013's are identically specified; the details are in the owner's manual. You need to lock the doors with the key fob or (I think) the outside key mechanism activate the alarm. When it's engaged, there's a flashing red light on the instrument cluster—not the flashing red light on the radio, which I guess advertises that the radio has its lock code, but another one near the speedometer.

anyway alarm getting installed tomorrow.
Alarm installed (DEI oem alarm upgrade) as soon as it went it in seems to have activated the stock alarm as well.
can anyone verify that the stock alarm is working on theirs with out having paid for it?
I guess my upgrade was still worth it even if its just for the shock and glass break sensor. (but prior to the upgrade alarm didn't go off from opening a door)

Which module did they use?
Been dying for a DIY, or better instructions.
You mean by opening a door when the OEM alarm is armed.... Mine works that way, I can make it go off by opening the door when the alarm is armed.

hmm maybe I didn't ever give it enough time fully arm (I expected it to be armed within a few seconds.
Oh and I used the DEI Canbus add on with glass break sensor..I did not DIY it..friend that's an alarm installer did it :-)
and OP yes you got ripped my cost was $200 and its better than the dealer alarm (I've had the dealer alarm on 2 cars)

If you mean if the OEM alarm auto-arms itself, I don't think it does. You have to literally push the lock button to lock the doors & arm the alarm system.
I've been reading some of the installation instructions on those DEI modules, along with some DIY's from other car owners... I think I can attempt it... just gotta figure out which wires to tap.
