Hi,

i removed the splash shield to try and find a front jack point. I think I found one near the front near the radiator.

I used to have a honda civic and this is where the front jack point was on it.

However I keep hearing people say that the front jack point on the honda fit is actually farther back near the back of the engine and is hard to reach.

can i use the one near the radiator? is it safe? has anyone used it? did it damage anything?

 

I wouldn't, but then that is just me being cautious. Otherwise, go for it. What's the worst that could happen?

 

well it might bend and screw up the frame.

I probably will try it but i'd like to know if anyone else has tried it before. the one behind the engine is almost impossible to reach with a jack.

 

Stop, don't go there. Use the square pad between the eng/trans.

 

The official jack up point is behind the rear engine mount. It is waaaay back there.

I usually use ramps or just jack up one side of the car instead of working front to back.

 

Check your owners manual. Only jack the front with jacks at the notched places on either side to the rear of the front wheels. And if you're changing oil and filter you can have the Fit tilt slightly to drain more oil out. If you work under the car use jackstands; its not a fun way to die.

 

for those of you telling me to stay away from the jack point near the radiator why? have you heard of people messing up their cars by using that point?

I was also thinking of placing a block of wood in between the jack and the frame to make sure nothing is dented.

 

i think we're telling you there is not a jack point near the radiator. its more towards the axle than the radiator..

 

hmmm...i used to jack up my civic by the radiator...i think it was the frame of the car where the radiator sat that i jacked up. i guess i just can't believe that honda would get rid of that jack point and put it so far back. major design flaw in my opinion.

or is it just not recommended to use the frame near the radiator as a jack point....possible just not recommended?

is that the front jack point that is way back there?

in that second (real) picture could you please circle the place to put the jack?

 

I just bought a piece of 2X8 wood and cut two pieces about three feet long. I drive the front wheels right up on them and slide the jack under to get the jack point way back there.

 

Is it really stable enough to support the front end by that one center jacking point?

 

It is on my Evo, Integra, and Ruckus. Of course I lowered it on jack stands on the jacking points after it was jacked up.

I would still like to hear from someone who was brave enough to use the frame near the radiator to jack up the car.

It's just ridiculous to me that you'd have to buy a long reach jack just to put your front end up on jack stands. those things cost 300+ dollars.

like i said i used to jack up my old civic from the frame near the radiator. sure it dented a few places on the frame but it caused no major damage.

 

It's sounding like you will have to be the brave soul who tries it first.

For me, I just use a regular rolling floor jack that my dad has. It just fits under, but the handle ends up being even with the bottom of the bumper. I use two peices of 2x8 and drive the car up on them first so I can get room to swing the handle.

 

With the crush zone in the fit, and the extra long nose for the North American market (extra crush zone to keep the insurance guys happy) I'd be reluctant to put a floor jack anywhere forward of the point Honda recommends. Mine fits, it's not long reach. I paid $80 at harbor freight.

My floor jack doesn't fit... most likely because my Fit is a little lower on the Swift springs.

I use the scissor jack on one corner to lift the Fit up a bit, then slide the floor jack in and lift the whole corner. Sure, it's a little bit of effort, but not much. I would use a second floor jack, but I'm too lazy the broken smaller one I have.
