my first honda fit

I am buying a honda fit I am thinking 2011-2013. Which year should I get? Is the sport version much better? Thanks for the input. Also are there any defects on the fit at all? I have heard that the are pretty much problem free.

If you want slightly better handling with the bigger, wider and nicer looking wheels, and a 6 speaker stereo, then yes, the Sport is better. Bluetooth shows up on the LX and Sport only as far as I know and that's only on 2011 on up. But if all you're looking for is a solid reliable car, any of the lower trims are fine.

thank you! Is 2007-2013 pretty reliable years or in one year better than the other? I love the bluetooth and gps screen!

If those are the features you want then no older than 2011. And overall, no one year is more reliable than another. Current body style is from 2009, so only minor feature improvements with each new model year(like adding of blue toot for example) New redesigned Fit for 2014 is due late this year or early next year, so if in no hurry, might be able to score a deal on current new model as dealers want to deplete their inventory.

There will be no 2014 (at least in the USA), the new model will be a 2015 model year and will be built in Mexico.

For reference all previous models were built 100% in Japan and imported to the U.S (for U.S. cars, some Canadian cars are built in China IIRC).

Actually only the 2012 originated in China for Canadian models. Having had my 2012 Sport since March, I've had no quality issues with my Chinese made fit.

While many people would prefer a car made in Japan over China or Mexico, it really shouldn't make a difference as long as the same quality control procedures are in place and enforced.

^Agreed.

Check the rust problems on the Chinese Fits.

Shouldn't make a difference, i'm sure it was fine when it left the factory, so QA wouldn't catch that.

Geez, I just got out of a Suzuki '05 that had rust all up in the hatch door. I looked all over this car to hopefully see no rust.

I went ahead and looked up my VIN too, good thing mine doesn't start with LUC.

Get the sport. First off, it looks better with the spoiler on the back. It has a better radio. I hear it handles better. It has cruise control. The wheels look much better. Resale value is better. If you get an automatic it has paddle shifters and you can adjust the rate the radio from the steering wheel. The sport model comes with Honda floor mats. Go to the Honda website and compare them side by side. Once you buy the car you're stuck with it so get the one that has all the things in it that you want.

I agree the Sport looks nicer, and that the added features are worth it. However, the base (2013) does have cruise control

The basic car is the same since '09. Every year Honda changes the standard equipment a little bit and there were some more significant changes in 2012 such as extra sound deadening. I've ridden in a 2012 and it sounds quieter, although it's no Lexus. You'll just have to see what comes with the vehicle you're looking at.

I have an '09 Sport and there were enough extra features like map and fog lights that sealed the deal for me. However, the lower profile tires equal a rougher ride. Some of those features missing on the base at the time were added over time, and if they were available I probably would have gone with the base model. It's personal preference.

I picked up a 2013 Base, and got a quote to add fog lights for $320 from my dealer. Yeah I miss out on the body kit and a few other knick knacks, but I picked up this car as a CPO on the cheap (like real good price) and I got it to run me cheap. Yeah I could of picked up a Sport, but I would end up paying a lot more than $2,000 or so in interest to do so (and I can add these onto the car without paying the bank). Instead, I have the option to save money on interest and pick up foglights, my own wheels and a body kit with my own money.

It's all in what you want out of the car and what you prefer to put money into I am very happy with my purchase so far. Btw, car rides very nice.

I would get a 2013 sport for the reasons others have listed.

The main reason is if they come out with the 2014 and it is changed like some of the news stories have said it will be a "first model" and USUALLY if problems crop up they find them in the "first models" with those changes and fix them in subsequent models.

That being said Hondas are very reliable so there may not be any new problems to worry about.

If you want factory Bluetooth then you'll have to go with the 2012. Wasn't available yet on 2010 models. And don't worry about 30000 miles. As long it's been maintained, there is still at least 150000 miles of life in that car. As someone who has owned 3 used Hondas with the lowest mileage one bought at 40000 miles, and all driven well past 200000 miles.
