Cruise control install on base model fit?

Hey everyone,

This is my first post and I apologize if this has been posted before. I just got myself a 2009 Honda Fit M/T. I was bummed that it did not have cruise control. A little investigation shows that there is quite a bit of commonality between the Fit sport and the base fit. Looks like the steering wheel is for the most part the same with the cruise control switch insert not installed but it seems like it would install nicely into the base model fit wheel. I was curious if the rest of the harness exists that feeds it into the engine control module. I also noticed that it seems that the indicators on the dash for the status of the cruise control seem to be there for the base model fit. Questions would be, are the LEDs that light up also installed? Also is the harness that the cruise control switch supposed to hook up to there? Does the cruise control feature then have to be enabled by hooking up into the OBD port etc? I was curious as to the feasibility of this mod. It would be great to have the factory cruise control enabled on my vehicle. Has anyone attempted this?

And here is an exploded view the steering wheel controls.

Not sure where that harness hooks up to though on the item labeled as "5". Seems to go for $60 or so.

You're breaking new ground.

The only mention of retrofitting Base Fits with cruise is aftermarket kits that are rather clumsy and expensive.

I don't think there is a comprehensive parts list to upgrade to the factory installation. I think it would be challenging.

Checking the shop manual, the Gauge Control Module does not include the cruise control indicator LEDs unless it is equipped with cruise. So you're looking at a new gauge cluster in addition to the switches.

Here are the main pages on cruise control from the 09 shop manual.

to add cruise using factory parts is going to kill your wallet. thats why no one does it.

I dont see what is so hard. Look at the harnesses between cruise adn non cruise models

all its going to be is ecu dependant and throttle dependant, plus steering wheel controls

Yeah it might cost couple hundred bucks more then your average aftermarket kit, but it will be 100% OEM

I've explored this on my wife's old Hyundai and the consensus was always - not worth the $ and work. I can only recommend to fully investigate what is needed before getting started. Best of luck to you amigo!
