2012 Main Headlight Reflector Removal

I am trying to remove the main headlight reflector.
Headlight housing is out of the car. Clear plastic housing cover has been removed. I have removed every screw that I can see. Has anyone done this? Is it even possible? I'm in the process of doing an HID retrofit and the asymmetrical reflectors are driving me nuts in terms of mounting the projector. Any tips on reflector removal or mounting projectors on the reflectors would be appreciated.

This drove me nuts as well. First unclip the alignment bolt at the top. There's a white clip over the screw.

Then reheat the housing for 5 minutes or so at 265. The heat will soften up the plastic. Once you get it out of the oven, pull the bottom of the reflector out carefully and the sockets will pop out. If you still have trouble, heat it some more.

This was the most frustrating part of retrofitting for me..

Thanks!

More heating! Time to fire up the grill again... These GE8 headlights are huge. I can't imagine that they would fit in anything smaller than a commercial oven. Thanks for the info.

Did you do Morimotos? Why did reflector have to come out should bolt right up after taking clear cover.. Just curious how did it get in the way?

Did the shroud not want to fit?

I'm about to do one myself and wondering why reflector needed separation from housing, especially since it's h4.. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Or pics!! Hybrid_eg@hotmail.com

Tks gents!!

I've done both MD2S and MH1. didn't have to pop the reflector off. definitely had to pop it off for the FX-R projectors though.

Tks bud!

Tks for feedback! I looked at that today and didn't appear reflector needs to be removed, but since I ran into this thread and one of the guys mentioned needs removal I wanted clarity.. I'm going with h1s just quick and simple..

Fxr's for sure need some cutting and epoxy I'm just helping bros gf not blind the traffic any longer, hahaha so mini h1 for the win

good choice! the current MH1 6.0 are fantastic for a non-OEM projectors. the mini D2S just can't compete. although TRS is supposed to release the mini D2S 3.0 any day now and the output on those look really good in the early released shots.

I know trs doesn't suggest running them on 55w ballast but have you tried? I really doubt anything would melt..
Although front part is plastic, running them with Gatling 2.0 will vent them out so much better than mini shrouds.. I have plenty of spare 55 ballast laying around..

To answer your question about removing the bowl, the reason I had to remove mine was so that I could jb weld the projector into place properly. It's impossible to do that while it's still attached to the base of the of the headlight housing. FYI, I have ls460 projectors, so they are not a direct bolt on like the morimoto ones.
