Battery died...

After reading some battery threads, and having the car sit on the auction lot for a couple days, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. After the jump the car was able to start itself a couple more times before I was home for the night. We'll see what happens in the morning. According to the carfax the battery was replaced in Jan 2011 and June 2011 (?).
So, first going to get the battery tested tomorrow and have a general inspection done on the car.
After that, assuming it is the battery, should I get a battery designed for the car? Which one?
Or should I go bigger, and with what battery?

Oh, and I apologize ahead of time for basic newbie questions. I have no idea how to talk car but I've wanted to learn. I know I'm another useless newb, so thanks for bearing with me.

There's only one size that fits without modifying cables and tray, 151R. Shop around.

A 51R has been made to fit (search threads).

Personally when mine goes (it's been 4 years) I'll replace it with the OE 151R size.

I replaced mine after 4 1/2 years with an Advance auto battery. More expensive, but a pretty good warranty.

if you do not mind a small project, a 26R battery is a great choice, considering you are adding a LARGE amount of extra power

51R is less of a project, but you are still cutting stuff, and getting very tight between stock airbox and driver headlight

I just replaced my battery a few weeks ago. I shopped around but in the end I got a OEM battery installed for $101.45 out the door at the dealer. I couldn't believe the dealer was cheaper than Walmart.

My battery is officially dunzo now. Needed CAA again. Its okay I have a Costco battery in the trunk. Need to do the install.

Was able to take everything off except for the positive terminal. Is the positive a 12mm or a 10mm? Also I cannot seem to get my socket/ratchet to fit due to the red thing that covers the terminal as well as the other junk that sits around the terminal, ie grounding wire etc.

Oh yeah I lost my front bar that holds battery in place lol in the engine bay this morning before calling CAA. Was so late for work just drove, so now its probably on the road somewhere lol. Oh well $10 part from Honda.

it was -15 out this morning so no wonder she didnt start.

So going back to my question, what is the best suggested way to take off the positive terminal? Should I just use a wrench or is their a way to get that socket to fit in there?

10mm and wiggle it. Don't forget to remove negative first. It is kind of a weird angle but a socket should fit over easily. Make sure you're undoing the correct nut, access isn't a problem (the negative terminal was a little awkward, I used an open end 10mm for that).

In a fit of new year's trepidation I changed mine Tuesday. I went with the OE size from NAPA for $90. Honda wanted $135 locally. The NAPA battery is the same specs as the original. Seems nicely made (in S Korea).

I am going to try that tonight. Did not have any issues with the negative terminal. I do own a 2007, but I assume the battery connectors and such are all the same in how its taken off. I hope this time it fits to get it off and maybe it was because I was freezing and in a rush.

I did take off the negative first, then moved to the grounding wire on the positive, that came off, then I just couldnt get the ratchet to fit on the positive lol.

I'm not following with what you mean by "grounding wire on the positive." You should only need to loosen one nut on the positive terminal, and the whole terminal block lifts off the battery post with wires attached.

On my GD3, i had 2 nuts connected to my positive terminal. One nut actually holds the shim to the battery terminal, and another nut connects a little wire that looks like a grounding wire to inside of the Red cover.

yeah, the one that tightens the shim to the battery post is the only one you need to undo. At least when it comes to removing the battery and replacing with the same size. If you're installing a larger sized battery then you may need to do more.

in cold weather, key it on and leave it for a few seconds, then crank it. Gives the fuel pump a chance to pressurize, and the O2 sensor heater circuit a chance to warm up a second
