Relocating the USB port on a GE8
Relocating the USB port on a GE8
So I am installing a Pioneer Appradio 3 and it runs a USB port just like the OEM radio does.
I use it on my cellphone and keep my phone on my lap regularly - so this means there is a long cable running from the glove box across the car to my lap.
So I went ahead and installed a USB port right by the drivers seat in the center console. This way I can use a short spring usb cable up onto my lap. Makes things neat and tidy.
And no - the seat does not interfere with it. I chose the spot right below the shifter that had a decent size gap for clearance. An easy job if anyone else wants to steal the idea.
The cable I used can be found here for $12 shipped:

With the seat pulled back a bit.

Top view with my seat in the normal position.

Looks very clean. I just bought a $4 USB adapter to stick in the 12v plug. I've always thought about toying with wireless charging, so I've been tempted to fit one in, except I don't have a good place to set it.
Only one - I have no need for two anyway. I can wire a separate usb port for simply charging. Maybe I will make another and stick it on the passenger side for charging only.
Good job overall though!
