check engine indicator turn on

How do i remove the indicator by myself? I cleaned up my air filter. Put all things back together but forgot to plug in the sensor wire. When i start my car suddenly the indicator light up. Quickly open my front hood, therr u go, i forgot to plug in the wire. How do i solve the problem? Is there any effect if i drive with the indicator light up?

An auto parts store or mechanic can connect an On-Board-Diagnostic (OBDII) reader and reset the light. Otherwise it will stay on as an indicator there was something seriously wrong (even if it was corrected).

Here they wouldn't charge for this, it takes just a minute or two.

On most vehicles you can disconnect the battery for an hour or so and it will forget the stored error codes. The are a few codes that require plugging in to the diagnostic port to reset. We usually tell people to disconnect the battery and leave it that way overnight. If you do this you will need the radio unlock code. Be sure you have it before disconnecting the battery.

Agree, disconnect the battery. Also some will reset themselves after sitting. for a while. either should work in this case since the plug has been reattached.

OBDII systems needs a scanner to erase the codes. Removing the battery cable erases the adaptive memory which is the learned corrections from fuel and timing for faster ecu responses.
