Should I...
Should I...
Hi all. I am currently considering purchasing a car and was really turned on the fit by the new 2015 model. I have done some searching and found a 2013 manual fit sport with 150 miles for sale for 13400. This seems like a killer deal, so I am considering that but also wondering if I should wait for the 2015. I'm not crazy about a Mexico produced Fit, and mist likely I couldn't get a base car for less than 16k, atleast for awhile. Thoughts????
Don't think that's possible. I read some dot docs saying that if you import a foreign vehicle, it has to be modified to comply with various federal laws.
The obvious one were talking about here would be the 5mph bumper requirement. No way the jdm body type would pass that, thats why honda put a big ass bar in the usdm fit. So basically you'd be forced to mod your Mexican fit into a usdm body fit.... Unless you could come up with a suitable crash bar that would fit behind that tiny front end.

Mexican Fits produced for the USA market will have to comply with USA rules, no changes will be needed. I'm sure Honda is making them in Mexico because it's cheaper to build cars there as GM, Ford and Nissan and perhaps some other manufacturers have learned.
I purchased a Mexican built Sentra years ago at the local Nissan dealer, it fully met all USA standards. It was a good car.

I thought the Reagan administration did away with 5 mph bumpers, they lowered it to 2.5 mph (which means absorbing only 1/4 of the energy). And if I remember right, the older standard was 5 mph with no damage, and the newer, crappier one, was 2.5 mph with damage only to the bumper (which could cost a ton of money). That the relaxed standard saved car companies a little money but screwed car owners a ton.
I would go with the '13 Fit, altho am wondering about the price - it's really low, almost too low. I bought same car, 13 Base with 5 M/T and really like it. Fun to drive and gets good MPG. I think you'd pay close to 20 grand for a 15 Fit.
It's worth $17K certified used from Honda.
A clean carfax doesn't mean it wasn't wrecked. If someone did major damage on a test drive and the dealer repaired it, it wouldn't show up on any report.
I'd be suspicious.

I would get that 2013 yeah the 2015 will have things the 2nd gen don't 6 speed 10 more hp a moon roof but im sure youll be in the $20000 range for a nice sport 2015 save your money with 2013 and wait a few years for all the nice cars that will be coming out in the next 5 years maybe then youll be in a spot with more cash so you could jump into a new civic si since I hear there gonna offer some amazing turbo versions of the si and the crz or maybe a new car model all together a prelude return you never know you could end up how all the 2012 civic si owners feel everytime they see the new 2014 si if they only waited
Maybe the dealership screwed up the pricing. I had this happen when I bought my 13 Fit Sport a month ago. Although mine had more miles, I purchased for 14900 with the Fit being Honda Certified. From the numbers I was showed, I bought the car for $500 less than what the dealership purchased it for.

Okay back to topic...

same exact car in my area, with the same low miles, certified and all is listed as $14,900. The price quoted down at the Texas dealership is exceptionally low. While it is at the early stages, used car pricing was reported to begin "falling like a rock" over the next year as many people come out from their "recession cave" and purchase a new car. Should one of my cars meet an untimely death, I'll welcome the lower prices for used vehicles. They have been excessively high over the past 3 years as dealers try to reap as much as $4,000 in profit off of each used car to offset the $700 or so they make off a new car.
