Anyone change that top center tail light out?

Due to recent car incidents, I believe I am going to aim for changing out that rear tail light at the top of the back window with a multi-directional LED type light. Has anyone else done this? I'm curious if its going to be tricky.

I swapped mine out for the clear JDM LED version... but since it's a Honda Access part it's a direct swap.

just an fyi our rear top (3rd/brake) light is LED's (not sure if it's multi directional, though).

I think for safety this is what you need to look in to https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...be-module.html

Here's a good DIY DIY Center Brake Light Flasher Install - Honda CRZ Forum: Honda CR-Z Hybrid Car Forums

It's on a CRZ, but our light is pretty much the same thing.

Oh, good information, thank you! I wasn't sure about the LED vs non-LED, I was just curious about making something annoyingly bright just for a little more visibility.

You're welcome.

For grabbing other drivers attention, that strobe/flasher module does the trick. I've seen a few on the roads here, and the quick flashes definitely gets other drivers to wake up.

Just check your local laws, I think in some cities it's illegal.

iirc, that's what some of the CR-Z guys mentioned (legality).

I don't see why it should be (especially because it just flashes, then goes solid), but it doesn't hurt to check. But maybe the blinks/flashes part?

Well, this is one of those things where if a police officer is not clear on red in combo with blue being the only situation where the red is deemed illegal, you'd end up with a ticket. Or, if someone decides the law is not written well, which happens in my job quite often, again, you end up with a ticket. Although, I've seen some new cars that seem to have come with the patterned type tail lights, so I'm not sure if those were bought that way or an added on mod that has just not been ticketed yet.

I looked again on that website, seeing if I could just get a brighter light back there, which I assume is called the "top mount stop light", but they didn't seem to have them. I read the FAQ on there, and apparently, LEDs aren't necessarily brighter than regular incandescent bulbs, but simply appear to be brighter... either way, for some you can get brighter LEDs with a wider visibility range. I suppose I'll keep looking for that online. If anyone knows of a website that sells those, though, please post a link
